I'm a professional pastry chef. No, wait, make that "cheap professional pastry chef". No, make that "frugal professional pastry chef". That's better.
I needed cake rings, and I was looking at having to buy several different sizes so I could do several different sized cakes. Each ring averages about $15 apiece, no matter what size it is. I didn't really have a need for a lot of rings, especially at those prices. Then I found this.....ONE ring for around $15 that expands to any size you want! Perfect! It's high quality and easily adjustable. I just love it. Meets the needs of this frugal chef!

Disappointing cake -ring, not for perfectionists!,

I am professional chef of French Pastries and I am disappointed with this ring. I used this ring to produce an extremely delicate cake called 'Mousse of Chocolate', so on the tender surface my cake's sides there were rough traces of clips, that are regulating the diameter of the ring. Professional cake-ring has to have a totally sleek shape without any clips on the interior surface...

I found this product, and thought it would be a handy addition to my baking arsenal. It is an adjustable ring, so you can make a cake or mold a dessert pastry any size between about 6 inches and 12 1/2 inches. Very handy! I use it mainly to help cut out pie pastry. Being able to cut a perfect circle helps place the crust pastry into pie plates, and especially in adding the top crust. There is less trimming, since I have already trimmed it before placing it.
I highly recommend this product. It stores in a small space, gives you great flexibility in many uses, and is not expensive. If I had known about this product, I would probably have purchased two or three of them, and not even purchased the discreetly-sized cake pans that now fill up my cupboards! If you are starting out in your baking endeavors, give these rings a try. While a bit more involved than using standard cake pans, they might give you much more flexibility in your cake and pastry preparation.
