This review is from: Kaiser-Frazer, the Last Onslaught on Detroit : An Intimate Behind the Scenes Study of the Postwar American Car Industry (Automobile Quarterly Library Series) (Hardcover)
Probably the seminal work on the postwar history of the independent auto companies after WWII. While the information on Kaiser-Frazer is very detailed, the book actually explores the general problems faced by all the non-Big 3 auto companies and why they ultimately all failed despite interesting products and many innovations. One can see many similarities with the problems our auto producers face today in the issues that Langworth explores. It's all presented in a very readable, entertaining manner. Some excellent photographs too (particularly the color plates at the end of the book). If you weren't interested in automotive history before reading this book, you will be afterward.
