Format: Hardcover
Probably the seminal work on the postwar history of the independent auto companies after WWII. While the information on Kaiser-Frazer is very detailed, the book actually explores the general problems faced by all the non-Big 3 auto companies and why they ultimately all failed despite interesting products and many innovations. One can see many similarities with the problems our auto producers face today in the issues that Langworth explores. It's all presented in a very readable, entertaining manner. Some excellent photographs too (particularly the color plates at the end of the book). If you weren't interested in automotive history before reading this book, you will be afterward.

I remember wanting this book when it came out in 1975 (I was 12) & recently took the plunge. I'm so glad I did ! Great history on the men & machines, & concrete reasons why the postwar "startups" failed. If you're into automotive history, you need this book !
