It has good reception on AM, FM, and Weather Band.

Solar panel works good on top of the radio and if you leave it in the sun to listen to it you really dont have to worry about cranking it the sun will take care of it.

This little radio has had some great reviews. One thing a potential purchaser should remember is that this radio has two small lithium ion batteries located inside it and they need to be recharged periodically by using the attached hand crank or the solar panel mounted on top of the unit. You can't buy this small radio and put it in your emergency kit and have it work for you months or years down the road when needed. It doesn't work that way. It needs to be used and the batteries recharged periodically, I would guess within a 90 day period of time. From the other reviews I have read from those who have purchased this little radio, they keep it on a window sill where it can get some sun light every day, that will keep the batteries charged using the small attached solar panel on the radio. My wife couldn't figure out why the radio wouldn't work the other day when she tried to turn it on and show some friends how it worked. She hasn't used the radio since she first bought it several years ago thinking we wouldn't need it until an emergency situation presented itself. How wrong she was, we both learned a valuable lesson. The hand crank and solar panel are there to charge up the batteries located inside the unit. The batteries will fail if you don't use the radio periodically.

After reading the great reviews on this a few months ago i decided to buy a couple of these radios.I'm so glad i did, as this is a must have in any emergency/survival/ bugout bags. This radio covers am/fm and the weather band. Its a hand crank & also has a top solar panel to charge it during the day.
PERFORMANCE:-
I cranked this micro small radio for 2 minutes, with the volume set at a low setting(30-40%) and left it on my window sill in the sunlight at 12pm. This radio was still running @ 5pm.The sound quality is very clear, and on the AM dial i was able to bring in a lot of stations during the day.I'm very happy with this purchase, and I'll be glad I have this during any tornado,or any power outage. There might be that moment where you might not have any batteries, you'll be wishing you had a good crank radio like this.

This radio is absolutely amazing. It is easy to operate and the sound is amazing for something of this size. I tried it using the crank handle and the solar charger. 1 minute of cranking got me about 30 minutes of play at a medium volume. The solar lasted as long as I left the radio outside. I am in San Jose, CA. and I receive stations on this little radio that I barely get on my Bose radio. This radio impress me so much that I ordered two more for my car and emergency kit.

It has good reception on AM, FM, and Weather Band. It's really neat to be able to tune above and below the WB, but only by a bit. I can hear a local police freq. on mine, but that depends on what freq. they use in your town. Be sure to crank charge or place in sunlight now and then to keep the batteries working properly.

Quality is pretty good - I received mine and it had a charge in it already because it turned on straight out of the packaging. I cranked it for 1 minute exactly and it played the weather radio for 4 hours before i turned it off. Ive been showing it off to my hunting buddies and they dig it. it does what it advertises and exceeded it in my case. buying 2 more

I've had this for some months now, and it's all you could ask. It will charge from either direct sun/lamp light or the crank, from a full charge runs ~2 hours at moderate volume.

Like anything of the type, if you have it for emergencies remember that you should use it once or twice a month and recharge it to keep everything working properly.

This little hand crank radio is awesome! Reception on the AM/FM is superb! The solar charger works well even outside in the shade. The hand crank is effective but only if you put some muscle into it. It will turn with ease but you need to really crank that sucker to get a full charge. The headphone jack is a nice edition if you just need some private listening. Also, the speaker is loud!!!! I was impressed. One bad thing, is that due to the frequency of the weather band (162.4 to 162.55 Mhz) it is much more difficult to fine tune and recieve the weather band stations. However, as soon as I did find it I have had no trouble. Try tuning into it outside first and once you got your mark don't forget it! I highly recommend this radio. Besides some minor flaws for the money, you cannot beat this. Everything else is 30 dollars and up and many of the more exspensive run on a battery instead of a hand crank or solar.

I got this radio for emergency, but decided to use it as my kitchen radio to avoid using a little electricity on a daily basis. When I first got this radio, I had the same experience as another reviewer. It had a long lasting charge right out of the box and after that would operate for relatively short periods of time after cranking. I have since learned that my original expectations were inappropriate. Now I keep it on the window sill to pick up some solar charge, and when I operate it I crank for 200 cranks and then periodically crank it 50 or 100 turns. I've never had it run out when I use this approach.

The sound, especially when you consider the size, is excellent!

The tuning requires two thumbs, one on each side of the wheel to help move it slowly so you can hear when you've hit the right frequency. Once it's on the station I want, I find that it doesn't wander or require further adjustment. I live in an urban area with good transmitters, and have not yet found the need to use the antenna. It pulls in our local stations just great. I have not yet tested the weather band.

The build seems very sturdy, but I have never dropped it. I can tell that what is going to fail first is the plastic knob on the crank handle. Considering the price, that's hardly surprising. So when I crank it, I try not to rock the knob but instead to hold it flat against the handle so it won't break off.

I do not yet have an idea of how long this radio will hold up. However, in comparison with my other crank radio, an old Freeplay which I've had for years and used very little, this radio is a great value. I plan to get another of these for my earthquake safety kit so I can rotate the emergency radio with the one I'm using this one in the kitchen.
