The Kajmere sound is a collection up and coming artists on the Kajmere Label as well as artists already familar to most. For those who don't know, the Kajmere label was created by the underground soul group "the Rebirth" to serve as an outlet for up and coming talent. Some of that talent featured here is "Choklate", an artist from Seattle. She is featured on track #1 entitled Waitin'. A hot track to start off the CD. Choklate is also featured on track #6, Bigger than you, another highlight. Other highlights include Sum Same by the Rebirth, Tread Lighty by NBE featuring Jon B, Our time to shine by Modern Groove Assembly featuring Sy Smith. This CD kinda has a 70's soul groove to it with today beats. All in all a very solid CD that's definitely worth listening to.

This CD is excellent. It's a soulful mix of jazz, hip hop, and R&B. Kajmere is a distribution company on the west coast turning out indiesoul, hip hop, dance, and indierock. They typically turn out 12" releases - most of these cuts are from these releases. And, this is exactly how this music sounds to me - underground, like hidden treasure - each track. From Adriana Evans' "Remember the Love", to N8E's "Tread Lightly" and "Rock On", to all of DJ Tonks' tracks, to Presto and LOWD's "Back in 92", to "Love" by the Globetroddas, this CD is an outstanding soulful representation of where I hope music continues to go. Buy it - you won't be disappointed.

I can honestly say this is my favorite CD of the year 2007 (it was released in 2006, but I didn't hear it til Fall 2007). All tracks are solid; some are ecstatic. Styles range from pretty straight-ahead hip hop, to nu soul, to electronica, to indy. The unifying theme is a positive vibe. I always feel uplifted after a session.
