I also bought this Uke. I did not buy it here at Amazon but at a Uke store where I lived. The owner matched Amazons price which was awesome. I am more of a guitarist but I wanted something small and easy to play and to have fun with.It definitely has good tone and good a sound coming out.Has a tuner with the EQ and it tunes very good to pitch. It uses 2 small disk batteries 2032 size for the power, one for the tuner and the other for the EQ.I plugged it into my small Marshall amp and it sounded good make sure you have your tuner off for some reason it did not kick in to my amp till I did.Acoustically it plays loud without it being plugged in which is nice. The action on it is OK to good but Ill probably take it to a pro and have it setup properly. It has a Beautiful body and neck and I love that mahogany wood and the sound it has. I am very pleased I bought this Tenor Uke by Kala and like gooeyshoe I would recommend this to anyone who wants to play the Ukulele. I also want to mention that the store owner where I bought my Kala Uke said that Kala will discontinue this model very soon.

First of all its solid mahogany, off to a great start. Compared to my Lanikai smp-c it has a mellow tone (typical for a mahogany instrument). The sealed tuners actually work better than the Grover tuners on the Lanikai. The pictures online do this ukulele no justice. I wasn't crazy about the look of the wood in the pictures, but once I received it I fell in love. Its got two holes drilled on the bridge for every string for some reason, seems to string slightly different. It needs some setup work done, the action is fairly high, not much of a problem though. I couldn't be happier with this ukulele. I get the vibe that its modeled after the Martin ukulele's of the 20's and 30's. I highly recommend this ukulele to anyone!

P.S. I've only plugged it in to a Marshall half stack and it wasn't great sounding...but again, that was a Marshall half stack!

Oh my goodness, I love this uke. It was much more than I was hoping for. The sound is great, the intonation is very solid all the way up the neck (making the cutaway actually useful) and it is a beautiful instrument to look at.

I am exceedingly happy with this purchase.
