5.0 out of 5 stars eclectic music for the 21st century
It is not often that I describe a band as "different." I usually like to give a genre when I discuss a band: "Oh, they're punk...they're ska-core...they're post-punk..."

Well, I have no labels for Earthsuit, but I like every single track! The best description I can muster is techno-electronica rapcore with reggae influences.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR MUTE MATH FANS
if you, like me, are considering giving earthsuit a listen because you're a fan of mute math, you might want to think again. i'm a huge mute math fan (they're easily one of the best acts - live or otherwise - around today). so when i heard about earthsuit, i decided to give them a shot, thinking they might bear some similarities to mute math. i couldn't have been more...

Earthsuit is a Christian band, although depending on the song you might never know. Knowing that does bring out the deeper meaning of many of the songs, but truly the music can be enjoyed for itself.

This CD is one of my favorites - one of the best music purchases I've made in a long time. This would make a great soundtrack for a party. It is easily as good musically as anything in the mainstream market. I have no reservations - buy this CD now!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is seriously one of my FAVORITE albums of all time., January 16, 2002

I didn't just listen to this album; I had a love affair with it.

The first time I heard Earthsuit was when "One Time" was played at a party. Right away, I had to ask a friend if he knew what was being played (he told me "it's P.O.D., I think").

Once I found out who the band actually was, I knew I had stumbled upon something wonderful. Hearing the entire "Kaleidoscope Superior" album for the first time was one of those rare musical experiences--a specific listening session that I would NEVER forget. It was the same feeling I had when listening to 311's "Transistor" through for the first time. The feeling that I had just heard one of the finest albums ever produced.
Typically, it takes a while for me to give a group "favorite band" status. KoRn, The Beatles, System of a Down, and Orgy all had to work to get there. For Earthsuit, all it took was one listen of their debut album.

I'll do what little I can to describe their sound--think 311, in some of their jazzier moments, with a touch of Sublime, a dash of Beastie Boys, mixed together with something you've NEVER heard before. Earthsuit manages to fuse together rock, rap, funk, reggae, techno, and jazz into a combination that's nothing less than mind-blowing. The sonic expedition is lead by the vocal team of Adam LaClave and Paul Meany, who effortlessly mix fresh, innovative, and frequently haunting melodies with dizzyingly funky, Zack-de-la-Rocha-without-the-chip-on-his-shoulder-esque raps.

But even this is drastically oversimplifying things. You simply have to hear Earthsuit for yourself. Do yourself a favor and give them a listen. [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A band that's unique!, April 15, 2003
By
This review is from: Kaleidoscope Superior (Audio CD)
Ok, here's the story. I first heard about these guys when I picked up the latest edition (at that time) of 7ball Magazine, and the cover story was, "The Hot 7." Basically, their predictions for the next big superbands to lead Christian music. Earthsuit was one of them. I picked up the free CD of sample songs that came with the magazine and listend to "One Time," and "Whitehorse," off the CD. Needless to say I had the CD by the end of the day.
Earthsuit could definitely be one of the next big bands under two conditions. One, they fire whoever their publicists and tour managers are. I've never gotten to see them live, and I've lived in many areas across the country, all near major metropolitan areas. And two, work on some better lyrics. I'll admit, most of the songs are perfect. But, then I run across songs like "Wheel of God." I'm sorry, but did I just hear, "Wheel within a wheel within. Wheel within a mighty wheel." Then repeat. Seriously guys, that's a little...repeditive. ...
Now that that's out of my system, I can say the rest of the CD is great. "One Time," is easily one of the best songs to come along in ages and deserves much attention.
To all those wondering if it's worth the buy, it is. If for no other reason than it's not the same old recycled [stuff] that floats around until the industry flushes it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cosmic from start to finish!, February 26, 2001
This review is from: Kaleidoscope Superior (Audio CD)
Imagine how it would feel if it were possible to isolate your brain from your body and send it on a round-the-world relay, using the world's largest rollercoaster as its primary mode of transportation. Or imagine an LSD trip without the negative side effects. Or a a brainstorm that registered a 9.7 on the richter scale. Earthsuit is the musical equivalent of all those things.

If you are a fan of rock, rap, techno, reggae, pop, jazz, Christian, or just plain good music--this CD will NOT disappoint. It will astound you, energize you, and inspire you. Whether you're just sick of the average music that wears out your speakers (not to mention your ears) on a daily basis, or you just feel in the mood for a pick-me-up that leaves you thinking with a part of your brain you didn't know existed before--this will fulfill those goals more than adequately.

Then, after you think you've absorbed everything possible from the CD, head out to one of Earthsuit's live shows and experience a whole new level.

To say that Adam, Paul, Hutch, Dave, and Roy are talented would be an understatement. They set a new standard for good music that overrides all genres and styles. And they carry with them an unpretentious, unabashed Christian faith that finds its way naturally into each song. Yet even the non-Christian listener will appreciate the lyrical brain tweaks, the musical collage, and the extreme adrenaline infused into this album. This is truly a revolutionary band and they deserve to be noticed and appreciated.

Some stand-out songs: Schizophreniac, Against the Grain, Whitehorse, One Time, and Do You Enjoy the Distortion.

On a personal note, I had the opportunity to not only see Earthsuit in concert, but to meet and talk with them and they are very down-to-earth, sincere individuals. They take a personal interest in other people, and don't seem to view themselves as anything special. This only adds to my respect for them, and I hope they continue to use their gifts for God's glory.

4.0 out of 5 stars Earthsuit has a Sound All Their Own, June 21, 2000

Kaleidoscope Superior, the debut album from New Orleans band Earthsuit, is a virtual melting pot of musical styles. Combining, reggae, rap, rock and techno, the band achieves a sound that is very original. The five members of Earthsuit rock on tracks like "One Time","Against the Grain", and "Schizophreniac"; but also show a softer side with "Whitehorse", "Do You Enjoy the Distortion", and "Said the Sun to the Shine".

Altogether an impressive debut, Earthsuit looks to shake up the mold of contemporary christian music. Highly recommended CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phantasmic, October 3, 2001
By
"alleykatgurl" (Los Angeles County, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kaleidoscope Superior (Audio CD)
To use one of Earthsuit's odd word choices from "Sky Flashings", Kaleidoscope Superior is, if you really had to sum it all up in one word/idea, "phantasmic". It's spacey, unpredictable, smooth, energetic and eccentric. I can guarantee you that you have heard no one like Earthsuit - and that's in Christian OR mainstream music. And if I tried to describe the style to you, you'd think I'm nuts. (rap, reggae, electronica, rock, pop, alternative, jazz, hip-hop...)

Fact is, Earthsuit has taken just about every different musical style and background in the known world and meshed them all together in a way nobody has ever quite tried before. And somehow, the end result works. In fact, it's better than anything I have ever heard. To boot, their lyricism puts you in a bunch of abstract perspectives that will leave you scratching your head and thinking, "...interesting." It's quite a trip.

And I, for one, have fallen way in love with that "trip". It has been less than half a year since I was first introduced to Earthsuit, and already, because of both the music and other reasons I can't quite place my finger on (one may be their incredible reality and character as people), they have engraved themselves into top status as my favorite band ever.

If you have not checked out Earthsuit yet...I don't quite know what to say, but that I cannot reccommend them enough. =)

Look for their sophomore album to release soon, early 2002...rock on the 'Suit!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very syce..., September 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Kaleidoscope Superior (Audio CD)
After seeing these guys at a Miles Ahead Crusade, and having them recommended to me by several musical friends, I purchased the CD with great anticipation. Already it's jumped to one of my favorites of all time! The best thing about Earthsuit is that they're a completely fresh and original line of music - something that I don't usually listen to(being more of a hard rock/alternative person.) I'm totally hooked on them - they're so much fun, because they swing between reggae and hardcore, and it's just great to blast out the windows. Buy the CD. The best of Christian alternative.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Suited" for Success, February 26, 2001
By
Rob M. (Naperville, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews

I first heard Earthsuit on the radio and their sound immediately caught my interest. Their talent is undeniable due to the difficulty of their music, their rhythmic accuracy, and throughout their entire album, Kaleidoscope Superior, they maintain great musicianship while still portraying a highly emotional message about their faith. It's difficult to find such an excellent sound in a Christian market that all too often is ignored because of a secularly-driven creative world. This band has a sound that can capture more than just believers. Look for Earthsuit to go mainstream in a hurry. It will be exciting to see how this band is growing when their next release "suits up".

Earthsuit breaks barriers that most bands falsely boast of breaking. Everything about the requires a second look: the lyrics, the music, their message; it is an interestingly refreshing refuge from the mundane contemporary christian music that is coming out now.

Earthsuits debut cd is one of the most diverse music purchases I have made in a while. Kalidoscope Superior rocks your faith to new levels and doesnt hold back the true message of Salvation and Freedom in the Spirit (Holy Spirit).

"One Time" and "Osmosis Land" are my favorite songs and I cant wait to see them live in Australia at sonfest (www.sonfest.com)
