5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written account of Tantric spiritual tradition
This book is a treasure for a scholar, a devotee, a seeker, or anyone interested in a beautifully written description of an authentic Tantric spiritual tradition. As a Kerala scholar I was astonished and delighted to see this material about the Odiyya tradition, which has been previously almost undocumented, presented in such a readable form. 1.0 out of 5 stars Uninspiring and sad, not true tantra
I have respect for Kali and things that are inherently here to change or destroy so that truth can be reborn (or protected)....but this story never gave me that feeling. The entire time I was reading it I felt a strange negative undertone ...as if I wasn't being told the whole truth. I always felt Preema was lying - no matter how many reasonable justifications she gave...

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written account of Tantric spiritual tradition, January 12, 2002

This review is from: Kali's Odiyya : A Shaman's True Story of Initiation (Paperback)
Although it reads like an exciting adventure story and is difficult to put down, the author also presents rich and complex metaphysical material in gorgeous prose. A must for anyone interested in goddess traditions, women-centered culture, shamanism, or tantra.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, May 8, 2001

This review is from: Kali's Odiyya : A Shaman's True Story of Initiation (Paperback)
This is a classic book on mysticism. It is a lively true story of the author intertwined with a wealth of mystical knowledge. For the first time a benevolent soul has revealed this profound secret knowledge in a way the common man like me can understand. Aunt Preema's discourses to the little boy Shambu clarified a lot of my questions about the human mind, relationships, universe, God, astral beings, other worlds, rituals, true love, evolution, sorcery, shamanism, karma and rebirth, lust and guilt, etc.

After reading this book, I have a major paradigm shift and also a feeling of my heart opening up for life and love. My heartfelt thanks to the author for publishing such an enlightening, healing and a lively book. I highly recommend this book for people inclined towards mysticism and the study of the mysteries of the human mind and life; and off course for one's own self improvement and healing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saving ancient wisdom from extinction, July 24, 2000
This review is from: Kali's Odiyya : A Shaman's True Story of Initiation (Paperback)
Amarananda Bhairavan has done the world a tremendous favor by committing to words his experiences under the tutelage of a hidden Tantric saint in a matriarchal society, one which has regrettably faded into obscurity. In an age where the local newspapers are full of personal ads hawking "tantric counseling," it is refreshing to come upon a work that clearly delineates what Tantra really means in its original cultural context. Bhairavan's book is recommended to anyone who is interested in Kali devotion or an exploration of authentic Tantric practices not yet poisoned by the Western stereotyping one normally finds in works published on the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONCE YOU READ IT YOU WILL 'KNOW'..., January 15, 2001

I have grew up with Amarananda and yet I was still astonished when I read his wonderful book. I can sum it up in one sentence..It was written by someone who 'LOVES' and 'KNOWS' the Divine Mother. It is very inspiring for those who worship the Divine Mother in whatever path they choose and kindles great love and deep yearning for 'HER'. The book highlights the simplicity, the yearning, the humility and great purity of a soul which is in search of this 'source of eternity and love'. An eyeopener for those who believe in soulmates and the path that these twin souls follow for Divine fulfillment. A must read for every couple who choose this path. This is TANTRA in its 'unsullied and purest form'

5.0 out of 5 stars A bridge between Eastern knowldge and Western perceptions, May 25, 2008

This review is from: Kali's Odiyya : A Shaman's True Story of Initiation (Paperback)
This is my first ever review of a book here at Amazon. Being a published author myself and having over 200 books on consciousness and spirituality, it is often difficult to find something that truly provides a new level of insight and understanding of things. I found this book provocative in so many aspects that I was compelled to meet the author and work with him on a personal basis. It is truly a rare opportunity to garner insight into aspects of consciousness that anyone whom is interested in this subject matter desires to know about. I recommend this book highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tantric Mysticism at its BEST!!!, March 19, 2006
By
This review is from: Kali's Odiyya : A Shaman's True Story of Initiation (Paperback)
Amarananda Bhairavan is the real deal. His writing style and energy brings the reader into a mystical realm of profound beauty. This book is a real tribute to Kaula Shakta Tantra. I heard he will be in London giving a 3 day workshop on Tantric Mysticism and the 10 Maha Vidyas along with a Saraswati Puja. His new book about the Odiyya's is going to be out this year.

Ok this isn't so much a review as letting you know that new copies are available at the author's site - www.deepsoulhealing.com - so you don't need to pay more than the new price for a second hand copy (which is what I was assuming I'd have to do).

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, December 6, 2008
This review is from: Kali's Odiyya : A Shaman's True Story of Initiation (Paperback)
This book is fascinating, enriching and enchanting. We get to enter a world that is totally foreign for us: a world where women reign, magic occurs and the borders between the living and dead are blurred.
Even though most of the book is difficult to believe it is written in a style that made me willing to believe almost everything.
The writing style is absolutely splendid. For large sections of the book I felt I was in India, felt the hot sun, saw the oriental colours and smelled amazing smells. As if this wasn't enough the book offers outstanding spiritual teachings that were very inspiring to me.
