The unit definitely serves its purpose. If I had a basis for comparison, I might take away a star or add a star. I needed a portable ice maker for my seasonal campsite, this one was the right price and qualified for "Prime" shipping. It claimed to produce 32 lbs. of ice in 24 hours and it seems to do that...we don't weigh it, but we have plenty of ice whenever we need it. The first batch is available in about 15 minutes. That batch is weak, but by the third or fourth, it's as good as anything from a freezer's ice maker. The only "problem" is that you need to keep it going....empty ice before it reads "icefull," and add water before it reads "deficient." Both will cause it to stop making ice and sometimes we've had to unplug it to reset it. A power switch would be nice. So, someone needs to be in charge of the emptying and filling. It's quiet. You can choose from three different size cubes. It makes lots of nice ice cubes...I don't know what more to say. I hope this is helpful.

What a hunk of miserable crap.

And Since WHEN is 50lbs portable?

Does the ad mention it makes only 1 cup of ice at a time? No.

Does the description mention that you would have to be sitting their removing refreezing and refilling the machine 24/7 to get 33 lbs of ice (heaven forbid it worked that long).

I get things break but Kalorik and their resellers (this is not coming from Amazon direct) are shameful.

The UNIT DID NOT WORK FROM THE BEGINING. KALORIK SAID THEY HAVE NOT MADE THIS UNIT SINCE 2007 AND HAVE NO TECHNICAL SUPPORT.

WHATS WORSE IS RETURNING A BADLY PACKED 50LB UNIT.


My story:


The market is flooded with these units all from LARGE third party sellers, which makes the return policy horrid.

They were made in 2007, and the factory has one and only one expert there who 'was on vacation'.

Problems with the unit:

1) it came in scratched and chipped while packaging was perfect. means it was damaged prepacking and a refurb unit.

2) Unit made one batch of ice, which promptly melted.

3) Factory responce: It makes the ICE it just doesnt keep it cold, so of course you have to use your freezer. (ask for the email).

This made no sense, so I unplugged it over nighht and it made great ice cubes this time that staid frozen. So I took the ice out, added more water, and made more cubes.

When the second batch of ice came out, the lid closed and the unit stopped dead. Everything melted, no more cubes, dead. no annoying noise.


Now here is the problem, and maybe amazon is better with returns.

Third party wouldnt pay for return shipping. This 50lb beaast that was baddly packed, needed 80$ of shipping material.

Called Kalorik several times during this experience and they have school children answering the phone. They laughed and giggled and said 'we haven't made that unit for a long time no one here knows about it'.


Will NEVER buy from Kalorik again, and NEVER buy a large object on line.

Referbed unit. Shame on them.

I hate this piece of junk. It leaked for several weeks until I took the whole thing apart and found that the line that feeds the unit wasn't fully attached to the drain so it dripped and dripped. I am buying a new unit and I will watch this one crushed in the trash compator.
