1.0 out of 5 stars Shocked by the positive reviews September 16, 2010

Like another reviewer, I got this to replace a Braun that I had gotten from Costco a number of years ago. It worked like a dog for 7-8 years - causing me to mothball my food processor and bowl style hand mixer. The braun could handle 90% of my needs and the other 10% I eliminated from the cooking rotation because I got so spoiled with the easy clean up (basically, throw the mixer end of the braun into the dishwasher and done).

I bought this based on favorable reviews and I think I am going to get rid of it. I didn't reach the conclusion I *hated* it until recently and it is too late to return. I should have known right when I saw the blade, which is half the size of the braun. It can hardly handle anything. I guess you could maybe blend soft ice cream with this. Or puree some VERY cooked veggies. A very small quantity of very cooked veggies.

The thing that caused me to HATE it is the fact that water collects up inside the tube where mixing piece attaches to the motor. So dirty water collects in there in the dishwasher or wherever and it is very difficult to get it all out. A couple of times, the dirty water has dribbled out into my recipe while I was mixing and that is just NOT ok.

Searching for a new Braun, but I just don't find the one I had.

1.0 out of 5 stars Failed to work after 15 uses. October 12, 2010
Bought this product based on its review on Cooks Illustrated. Have only owned it 2-3 months and used it maybe 15 times. Followed all instructions for use (1 Minute continous usage maximum followed by resting before using again). Yesterday morning tried using it and it no longer worked. I have had other brands that lasted 5 years or more.

After having owned it I am not interested in getting a replacement for the following reasons. Since I am out of the return window I must go through a warranty replacement, but not from Kalorik. According to them they have an agreement that warranty replacements for products purchased on Amazon must go through Amazon. Trying to find those procedures on this website is way too cumbersome. Also, Amazon lists the blender attachment as being dishwasher safe however the documentation states that it must be cleaned by hand. Water can get into the shaft and fester in there so it requires you to shake out any water than may have gotten in. Finally the whole thing felt flimsy from the get go. On first use to just blend some scrambled eggs the motor started to smell (30 second at best job). In the end I guess you get what you pay for. I would rather shell out twice the money and get something that lasts 100 times longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Product December 2, 2010

"Cook's Country" Magazine rated this product the best on the market; this is what prompted my purchase. My Cuisinart immersion blender lost it's strength over time and I needed a replacement. The Kalorik motor is very powerful. It easily takes on whole frozen fruit pieces and purees them for smoothies. The blade is set at a the perfect height to maximize blending power and move the ingredients around for thorough mixing. The blender is well designed. It detaches easily from the base for efficient cleanup. I think the Kalorik hand blender is an excellent purchase for the price.
