We've had these since 09/08 These worked GREAT for a while, but we noticed that with certain spices the covers came off hard. We just assumed the micro shape of certain spices causes the binding. Yesterday, we could've refill the one with Kosher Salt. After fighting we final got the cover off just and looked under the lid, and it looked like Rust... Then I look them up online and discovered these are Aluminum NOT Stainless so we were getting corrosion. MY mistake on that, but buyer beware!!! Tumeric, Salt, Adobo are just a few of spices that cannot go in these cannisters. Leafy herbs are OK. EVEN the placement strips are corroding.

Beautiful, versatile, well-made spice rack!,
This review is from: Kamenstein 5-Canister Magnetic-Strip Spice Rack (Kitchen)
I had been eyeing similar products ever since seeing a magnetic 12-canister at my friend's house five years ago. I didn't really need the base because I intended to keep my canisters on my fridge (the magnets are very on these), but everytime I came across what I was looking for, the canisters were either very light and cheap feeling with a thin plastic top, the magnetic backing seemed flimsy, or they were prohibitively expensive for spice containers. This product is a perfect match for my needs, as it well-manufactured and relatively inexpensive when taking into account its high production value. I found that it was cheaper to buy the rack and canisters than the canisters each separately and now I can display them on my back-splash at some point should my aesthetic needs shift. The canisters have two means by which to dispense the spices: you simply turn the lid slightly to either sprinkle or pour your spice. I would have preferred slightly larger perforations for sprinkling but this is not a huge issue at all since I usually just unscrew the lid anyway and pour spices on my hand when cooking. I have since purchased two other Kamenstein racks (one much larger), and I use one of the racks in my home office for my thumb tacks, small paper clips, rubberbands, etc. Spices are so beautiful (both the color and texture) and displaying them, juxtasposed against each other in this manner, really embellishes my kitchen and makes the space more dynamic. The rack is a really successful piece, both regarding its form and function. An added note for parents: the canisters are very visually appealing to children as well as adults, which is another benefit. But they should be kept out-of-reach of toddler-aged kids if they contain spices or sharp items as mine do in my kitchen and office respectively. My sister did buy one after seeing mine and put it in her seven-year-old daughter's bedroom. She uses hers to organize and display her daughter's hair accessories. My niece loves it. I could see it being useful for art supplies as well! Great, versatile product at a fair price!

Looks great and works great,
This review is from: Kamenstein 5-Canister Magnetic-Strip Spice Rack (Kitchen)
Pros:
Looks great. The whole thing looks like matte finished stainless, and the plastic windows on the canisters add visual appeal as well as practicality. The canisters themselves are very practical. There are shake and pour slots on the sides (just turn the lid to open/close them)and you can pull the lid off completely for scooping. This doesn't seem like much of a benefit until you own a spice jar that ONLY has tiny little shake and pour openings and won't accomodate a spoon. The whole magnetic thing is pretty cool. I just stuck the baseplate to the side of the fridge, stuck the canisters to the baseplate, and I was in business. Cons: Hmmm, none that I can think of although I've read reviews that complained of the magnets becoming unglued to the bottom of the baseplate and canisters. BUT, this happened because they kept the spice rack close to the oven or on the range hood.

I bought five sets, and mounted them inside a cabinet with the self adhesive strips provided. The tops don't fit snugly, so when the canisters fell off and spilled their contents, it made a huge mess. I then stuck them to the side of the refrigerator. The magnet on the back of one strip came off, and the stainless face plate (and all of the spices on that plate) fell on the counter, making another huge mess. Now the magnet has come off of the back of one canister; surely more will follow. One last thing: I would have prefered to have a set of spice labels rather than the bags of free spices (of uncertain origin) that came with the jars.

The five magnetic spice containers are perfect for organizing and storing. They take up very little space and eliminate spices lost at the back of the cabinet. I have four sets and have attached each one to the inside of a cabinet door. My spices are out of the way but very accessible.

I ordered several sets of these and LOVE them. They have held up well, with the exception of one (the magnet came off the back, but was easily reapplied with with glue).
I read some 1 star reviews, but we have encountered none of the negative things they have found.

We love them. We put them on the refrigerator. wish there were more labels and that they were easier to read. Bought 4 sets of 5, so we have 20.

Lets just say i know how to correctly mount an object..
these items are horrible. upon using the spice containers, after 2-3 times u start hearing a crunching and have to use a little more effort to twist the cap and expose the pour spouts.. the seasoning seems to be slipping between where the lid and the container meet.. well one day i was standing there and heard a THWAP! thats right - the decorative spice rack that adhered to the magnetic strip had become unglued and just fell off spilling ALL the spices all over the kitchen.. what a mess i cleaned it all up (and my dogs) and figured id return this for a refund. i got a 2nd one thinking the first was just faulty manufacturing and it happened AGAIN, in a different location in my kitchen and the SAME MESS AGAIN.. my magnetic knife holder by MUI works just fine.. this is just poorly made junk. buyer beware. look for reviews of other spice racks by this company. its alllll junk btw - NO i didnt mount near fridge or stove or in a sunbeam from the window. NO heat hit this thing to make the adhesive melt off.

Corrosion problem is a real problem.,

After only half a year, we will need to toss ours. Worked very well at first, but now it's just corroded and the plastic tops have caved in. Not a good product.

I'd been looking for a creative storage solution for spices and this seemed like a great fit - so much so that I bought two of them. They worked well for a few months, and in no particular order, the following occurred:
1. The tins themselves corroded and became difficult to turn and open (for pouring). 2. The magnet on the bottom of over half the tins came loose. 3. Most of the spices became clumped up due to moisture even though the tins were sealed. Mine were not installed near the oven, as other reviewers had commented. All in all, an epic fail. One of the only items from Amazon that I've been completely disappointed with. I'm glad others seem to have had good experiences with this product, but that sadly was not my situation. |
