Great Idea, but form over function,

The containers are very handy, but are definately not air tight and do not preserve the spices.

Best spice solution we've found, but cracking,
This review is from: Kamenstein 6-Canister Magnetic-Strip Spice Rack (Kitchen)
They stick to the side of the refrigerator by our counter and are very convenient. They work great and our friends want to get some. The plastic on the lids cracked on a few of them after 6 months, for no apparent reason.

Spice Rack Has Many Uses !,
By michael herrier (Largo, FL USA) - See all my reviews

Although this is technically a "spice rack", I found this item to have many other uses as well. Since I was having a difficult time with the storage of supplies at my desk I purchased several of these to help eliminate the problem. They have worked out great. Since they can be mounted on the wall, they do not take up valuable desktop space. It is also very easy to see what is in each container since the tops of them are clear. They stay out of the way - but are still within arm's reach when needed. Since they are also magnetic, they stay in place well (I haven't lost one of them yet!). I have found that the 6 set canister set is the best buy and also that the single strip offers much more versatility than the set of 9 or 12 that comes with a magnetic sheet instead of individual strips. I am even thinking about purchasing more and actually using them in the kitchen.

Can I just tell you that this simple device has made my life so much easier... I can't believe I didn't find it sooner! I have 6 of these sets now on my fridge. Baking and cooking is alot easier because all I have to do is reach over and pull off the spices I need. No more digging through the cupboard, spice jars tummbeling off the shelves, or lost ingredients. One aspect of this that I like is that it holds a small sized spice jar (approx. 1/2 cup) and forces me to rotate and get fresher spices more regularly. For those spices that I use constantly, like garlic salt, I still buy the bulk containers, but store the bulk away and just refill as needed. The only complaint I have is that some of them have super tight fitting lids that are impossible to turn and sometimes stick when trying to pull off. Out of almost 40 spice containers, 3 are like that. I put my least used spices in those. To me, it's a small price to pay for such a handy item. LOVE THIS!

canister set is great space saver,

I purchased this canister set in order to save space. The magnetic strip is great because it allows us to use the space on the side of the fridge for storage. These canisters have shaker holes and a pour hole which is great for accessing the spices. My only complaint is that the tops are hard to remove when you do want to remove them.

I actually loved my containers when I first received them. They are perfect for our kitchen and super functional. After the first 6 mos, I noticed the tins started to rust so I ordered another set as backup. Well now, I am in the same position again. Maybe a stainless steel would have been a better choice for materials. So I am going to try to order a stainless steel set from another manufacturer.

Nice little spice jars,

They look great and have the option to sprinkle or poor. The only reason I didnt give them a 5 star is because I dont think they are airtight so moisture is getting in and making some of my spices clump together.

Bad for Bakers,
By
This review is from: Kamenstein 6-Canister Magnetic-Strip Spice Rack (Kitchen)
I love the fact that my spices are stored stuck to the side of my fridge, freeing up cabinent and counter space.
However ... I bake. And as a result I'm often reaching for the cinnamon with just a hint of butter on my fingers. And there is nothing so difficult as trying to open the lids of these puppies with just a hint of butter on your fingers. It's always the cinnamon, too. Within a week of having the set a handful of the jars were too slippery to open, requiring me to pry them open with my fingernails. But they are tension fitting so this takes some doing as I have to slide my fingers around the edges pulling up a little on each side until they lids pop off. Also, eventually, the magnets have begun sticking to the paint on fridge, requiring monthly rotation, or risk the loss of paint on the fridge when I grab the spice jar, or leaving behind the occassional magnet from the bottom of the jar. I live in a mildy humid area, and some of the lids have begun to rust a smidge after about a year, only where the lid and the jar meet though. All-in-all, I'm still shopping for the perfect spice solution.

I saw ones ''like this'' on the Racheal Ray show. But let me tell ya, if ya buy anything with her name on it your paying way too much ! These are very nice, look great, easy to use, not expensive and you dont even need the magnetic back plate they come with unless your putting it on the wall. I pop my containers right on the side of my frig ! Easy reach while cooking and no more cluttered cabnets!
love these and would recommend them to anyone. michelle

Listen to the gripes about the magnets,

First off, the canisters look amazing. If you're careful hand washing them I don't see them getting damaged as they are fairly sturdy for stamped metal and plastic. Between the satin metal finish and the texture and color of the spices, the rack looks fantastic. Mounted easily, cleans easily, and the twist shaker tops are a nice touch.
But the magnets *are* crap. They're the cheap sheet magnets that you get from craft stores. Good enough for the really light dried spices like rubbed sage, but they have trouble holding the granulated and powdered spices like curry. I ended up gluing a triangle of rare earth magnets on each canister and now they're really solid. Unfortunately that makes them a bit lumpy on the back and they don't sit as flush as before. Maybe you'll be more talented with the glue. I would not trust these on a refrigerator door until additional magnets were added. |
