4.0 out of 5 stars i like it, but slightly disappointed
i was very excited to receive this item in the mail. i have been trying to find an inexpensive and attractive spice rack. i was disappointed to see that the metal is cheap and was bent at the bottom of one of the columns. i was able to bend it most of the way, but it's still a little obvious. i'm also disappointed that they didn't come with all the spices i was hoping and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Design good, spices not so good, October 21, 2006
I have been wanting a revolving spice rack for a while now, since my spice cupboard was overflowing and I wanted to organize them a little better near my cooking space. With this in mind, I went to my local Bed Bath and Beyond to check out their offerings. I liked the design of this, and after looking at the display model and saw what spices were included decided to go ahead and purchase.

When I brought it home, I noticed that the spices pictured on the box and on the display model were NOT what was included in my box. This wasn't a huge deal, since I have most of these spices anyway, but somewhat annoying. For example, one that I assumed by the box would be included was whole allspice, which is a fairly pricey spice. Not here.

Another annoyance was that the labels on the box and display model were more attractive than the huge, san serif block letters on the tops of the jars that I received. A little thing, maybe, but irritating to me. When looking at the material that came in the box, there was a disclaimer that the spices included may vary from the image on the box. Fair enough, but why did the display model include them?

Another downside was that the spices I did get were not very fresh. I chucked some of them and replaced with what I already had on hand. Any time you buy something like this, of course you are going to get spices you don't use. But for them to be stale is pretty bad. Basically I ended up tossing or replacing quite a few of the spices on the rack, since several of them I don't consider "everyday use" spices. Caraway seed, mustard seed, savory? But not cinnamon, cumin or sage. Pizza seasoning AND Italian seasoning? Seems kind of redundant. It would be helpful if the manufacturer included replacement labels with other spices so that you could customize the jars to your liking. Or better yet, a few empty jars!

Perhaps I'm being overly picky, but I wish I could have gotten a version with no spices at all that I could just fill myself with what I actually use. Maybe it's me, but I think these type of things need to be functional as well as attractive.

Aside from all this, the rack is quite nice in design. I like the size and the shape of the jars, and the stainless steel looks nice in my kitchen. It seems as though it will be easier to clean than many of the others I've looked at.

I think it will serve its purpose well, once I finish customizing it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cool container, lame spices, March 4, 2010

I bought this spice rack since I needed spices but didn't have room in the cabinet. The container for it is great, nice looking. But the spices given are a joke for the most part. Some of the things I have never even heard of. Also, how can a spice rack not even include cinnamon or cumin or cayenne or red pepper flakes? They put some odd things in there. So, I just emptied the containers and added my own. I went to the craft store and bought stick-on labels and re-labeled all the spices so they look uniform. Bottom line- buy it for looks and then use your own in their containers, the spices provided are not very useful in everyday cooking...at least not in my house.

1.0 out of 5 stars Looks like a great deal, but isn't, October 12, 2010

The picture makes it look solid, and nice looking. Unfortunately it is neither of those things. It was a little bent when I recieved it, mostly because it is made with flimsy, cheap metal. And in person, it looks like flimsy cheap metal. I agree with some other reviews that the labels are cheap looking as well and the spices are odd - it doesn't include garlic, but includes italian seasoning and pizza seasoning, which are almost identical.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Spice Tower, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Kamenstein 20 Jar Revolving Spice Tower (Kitchen)
Great for the price. The tower is plastic and can get bent, but it is easily molded back into place. Rotates and looks nice. I thought the spices were decent and there are five year unlimited refills. The one thing I would have liked is to have lables to put on the spice jars if I chose to use other spices. It is not a big deal, because I could buy my own labels, but a reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Still I would recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars horrible quality, October 17, 2010
This review is from: Kamenstein 20 Jar Revolving Spice Tower (Kitchen)
This item was received in the following condition: a dented and bent column. This was not due to any shipping issues, that is just how it was packaged. The metal is so flimsy, it was not surprising how easily it could dent or bend. When ordering this item, be sure to realize just the spices were bottled in the USA, the actual rack is made in China, which accounts for the poor quality and shoddy workmanship. Do yourself a favor and buy something made in the USA which will hold spices without any issues of poor quality. I would give this 0 stars, but had to pick at least one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible deal for the price!!!, August 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kamenstein 20 Jar Revolving Spice Tower (Kitchen)
This is an overall great spice rack. I'm just starting out from nothing in a new apartment and needed to buy EVERYTHING which can get pretty pricey - this spice rack was perfect for me. Comes with 20 preassorted spices (ones that i'll never use and are interesting that these were selected as opposed to more basic spices) but at least this way I still have room for my other spices later on. This rack looks great -- heads up, its chrome finish, not brushed steel as I had thought from the picture. The price was considerably lower than anything else I saw for a good looking, 16-20 jar rack. Some reviewers argued that the spices weren't that fresh, but come on- for the price, its well worth it. Maybe not appropriate for a professional chef, but I'm assuming a professional chef would invest more than $29 on a pre-filled spice rack... For me, its great - the price is even incredible just for the spices alone!!!! and you get free refills of all the spices for 5 years!!!! now THATS incredible!! Think of how much it would cost to buy 20 spices at $5 a jar at the supermarket... this is really an incredible deal, and would totally recommend it to anyone starting out or looking for nice accessories for their kitchen at a good price.

This was a wedding gift, chosen because it looked almost like the model on the couple's William-Sonoma registry. If it was NOT exactly the same as the one featured in William-Sonoma's, the differences were not apparent. The spice rack was available only through on-line sales. William-Sonoma's shippiing charges were much too high ... Amazon shipped for FREE and rather quickly!

I've had one of these for about 6 months, and just gave one to my sister as a Christmas gift. She's not exactly a gourmet chef, so she wasn't overly concerned about how old the spices were. It looks great on her counter, it keeps her organized, and it came with an order form for FREE spices from the manufacturer for the next 5 years. You really can't beat it for the price.
