4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good item (UPDATE)
UPDATE(( I've now had this product for about a year and a half. The only problems I have had since my initial review are that some of the magnets came off the back of the tins after about a year. However, I did have them mounted over the stove and the heat may have affected the glue. A little glue and they were fine. Another issue is that the lids are not super tight and...

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away, this product is garbage
This product is garbage. I have finally thrown it out after one year due to the following problems --

1) One by one, each jar lost its magnet due to weak adhesive. One by one, I superglued them back together.

2) Several of the jars became entirely bonded shut and the rest are difficult to open so they're almost there. (Climate related? I live in...

UPDATE(( I've now had this product for about a year and a half. The only problems I have had since my initial review are that some of the magnets came off the back of the tins after about a year. However, I did have them mounted over the stove and the heat may have affected the glue. A little glue and they were fine. Another issue is that the lids are not super tight and sometimes the spices get lodged in between the lid and the can and make it hard to turn, then when you take the lid off the lodged spices fall onto the counter. When comparing the prices of other similar products, I would buy this again. It has been helpful and convenient with some minor flaws))

Original: I was initially worried since this rack was significantly cheaper than all of the other magnetic racks I looked at on the web.

I was surprised with the quality. The magnets on the back of each container are very strong and I have never had a problem with them falling off. The product also comes with enough spices to fill all of the tins which if you priced the spices would cost as much as this entire rack itself.

Similar racks cost almost a hundred dollars or more and this rack gives you the option of standing upright on the counter or mounted on the wall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well I can only speak for myself, January 2, 2007
This review is from: Kamenstein 12 Tin Magnetic Spice Rack (Kitchen)
I read a few not so favorable reviews, mostly stemming from problematic attachment of the stand (which mine does not suffer), but I decided to order it anyway, figuring the potential upside eclipses any issues with the stand (you can also wall mount it). Well it has paid off, as the magnets work as promised, the tines stay sealed tight, and the tops rotate to open two different sized outlets for the spices. I pitched the included spices and filled it with my own. As for labels, there are many clear preprinted labels available for purchase here or elsewhere to accommodate your own spices. I honestly have never seen a better designed spice rack, and it has worked beautifully.

1) One by one, each jar lost its magnet due to weak adhesive. One by one, I superglued them back together.

2) Several of the jars became entirely bonded shut and the rest are difficult to open so they're almost there. (Climate related? I live in New York.)

3) The ones that are still usable smell like metal and impart a metal flavor on the spices.

4) I too had a problem with the frame snapping right off the back so I had to just lean the whole stand against a wall.

5) Several of them appear rusty though I have no recollection of ever getting them wet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dont do it! There are better options., October 7, 2008
This review is from: Kamenstein 12 Tin Magnetic Spice Rack (Kitchen)
I strongly suggest buying your own metal strip or board or painting your wall with magnetic paint and then buying some higher quality magnetic spice tins from a retailer elsewhere.

These particular tins are made very cheaply. Spice gets stuck under the plastic front and metal edge, and it's pretty gross.

They are easy to knock of the wall when you take one because the magnets are so weak.

The magnets will eventually just fall off he back of the container and then the container will fall to the floor, getting dented and spilling spices.

I have found much better options elsewhere, dont write off magnetic tins from these cheapies. They can and do work -- however these won't.

The product looks nicer online than it does in person. When I opened the box, the stand was intact, but 10 of the 12 magnets had popped off the back of the cannisters and I had to reglue them myself.

There are 12 spices included with labels, but it would have been nice if they provided more pre-printed labels for other spices, or at least blank labels you could fill in yourself. Overall I'm pretty disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars other observations, January 6, 2008
This review is from: Kamenstein 12 Tin Magnetic Spice Rack (Kitchen)
I have had this product for a couple months now. One of my jars the magnet came off, but I easily re-glued it. I think the containers are a little larger than I expected, and many I have not filled up completely. I have no problems with the container's openings and have not had many spills. I am concerned that the spices may not stay fresh and may receive humidity damage. I was disappointed that the metal stand has small indentations for each container - I wanted to place them at random on the stand - now they will always be organized neatly (This may not necessarily be a con to you).

Additionally, I wish they had given me the list of spices included:
Caraway, Mustard Seed, Coriander, Marjoram, Oregano, Basil, Parsley, Italian Seasoning, Bay Leaves, Pizza Seasoning, Rosemary, and Mint.

2.0 out of 5 stars TIN magnetic Spice Rack, October 25, 2007
This review is from: Kamenstein 12 Tin Magnetic Spice Rack (Kitchen)
I think I was just so excited about the price and when the only metal listed in the product detail was "stainless steel" I impulse purchased this. The containers are tin the STAND is stainless steel. The problem with tin is the smell and the durability. 2 of the 12 containers in my set came dented. The smell will definitely over take the spices eventually. I think in the product detail it also suggested this be used for crafts, I think that would be a better use.

2.0 out of 5 stars magnetic spice rack, September 19, 2005
This review is from: Kamenstein 12 Tin Magnetic Spice Rack (Kitchen)
The idea was a good one but,....... the tins fall off the metal base not enough mag in the magnet and they have been rolling all over my kitchen and it's big and bulky and no place to put it, a little too big for my counters. No where to hang either.

What a great idea: a spice rack that you can hang next to your kitchen work area that won't be in the way. Wrong. The magnets on the bottom of the spices, fall off. That's right: in the middle of mixing something, a magnet falls off causing a spice to fall onto whatever is close. Of course, the magnets fall off when you're not even close to the rack. You get to walk into the mess in the kitchen after the magnet has come off, the container has dropped, and the lid has come off.
Great idea in theory, but a horribly high price to pay for something that you will want to throw out within a few weeks of messes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stand Broke Off, April 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Kamenstein 12 Tin Magnetic Spice Rack (Kitchen)
After reading the prior review, I was compelled to write. The rack looks great, works great, and does come with a full complement of spices. Unfortunately, my stand was also disattached from the face when it arrived. It is easy to see why as the metal attachments are very small and appear easy compromised. This is a design flaw. Fortunately, I was planning to hang mine anyway so I am staisfied with it.
