About the Author

Born in Senegal, Africa, and raised in Texas, Deirdre Langeland's interest in writing began at an early age. Her first book, self-illustrated in crayon, was a great hit with her first-grade classmates. She has always enjoyed learning about animals, and Octopus' Den offered a great opportunity to get to know the exciting and mysterious world of the octopus. A graduate of Middlebury College, Deirdre works in children's book publishing. Octocpus' Den is her first published children's book. She currently lives in New York City, NY. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From AudioFile

For the early elementary age group, this book-and-cassette gets high marks. Kaye reads this informational book about an area in Australia in a clear, polished, professional voice, void of almost any accent. Her pace is slow, the tone bright and enthusiastic. The sound effects greatly increase the success of the recording. There are sea lions barking, sea gulls calling, crickets humming and a raging forest fire. The musical accompaniment ranges from lullaby strains to energetic instrumentals. The last page is a fold-out with pictures of the area, but it gets bent easily. A.G.H. (c) AudioFile, Portland, Maine --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.
