Product Description

The Wool 504 is the iconic, original Kangol Cap. First introduced in 1954, the 504 cap get its name from the number assigned to the block shape that it is made on. The seamless, knitted and blocked construction is purely a Kangol innovation, and Tropic is the fundamental summer weight material upon which Kangol has built its name.

This is a nicely made cap. The wool is extremely soft, and the colors are rich and vibrant. However, the shape is much wider than most traditional caps of this type (whatever you may choose to call them - Scally caps, Ivy caps, flat caps, driving caps, etc.). If you have a very wide head and face, this cap will look great. If you have a narrow face, it will look rather silly - a little like a beret with a visor sewn in. For point of reference, if you have a head like James Gandolfini or Kevin James, get the 504. If you have a narrower facial profile (think Paul Newman, Adrien Brody, etc.), consider the Kangol Geez. It has a more traditional shape that doesn't look so wide and pancake like on a thinner face.

I own several styles of Kangol's and wish there were more reviews on them. It's tough to know how they're going to fit ahead of time since you usually can't go to the mall and try all the styles on. I buy Kangol's in size Large. I'm normally a 7 3/8 in New Era 5950 baseball caps for size comparisons.

Compared to the classic Ventair 504, this Wool 504 is sized wrong. I own several different styles of Kangol's, and this is the only Large where it feels like an Extra Large. When I lay my Ventair 504 next to/on top of the Wool Cap, the Wool one is definitely wider and longer in length.

As I said before, the brim is huge on this hat/ it's very wide. The brim is also a little tougher to shape than on other Kangol's. I laughed when I read another reviewer say this looked like it was cut from a big fleece blanket, because I can kind of see that. It does fold very flat if you're taking it on a trip.

The Kangol wool 504 hat does a nice of job keeping my head warm. I don't find the wool itchy at all.

If you got it sized correctly, it might be a really good hat. It's smooth-looking and it's a Kangol. I'm just dumbfounded at how big this one fits.

Great product, but my only concern is the logo. I got black, and want to wear it mostly backwards, beret-style. But the logo, is VERY prominent against the black. I've got a brand in the middle of my forehead. It's a cool brand, but I wish it were more discreet, or there was an option to order it without the logo. Ordered from Amazon and it came early. I had measured my head and was right in between a L and XL. Kangol's website said to go with the larger size if you are on the bubble, and that was good advice: fits just right.

Excellent cap from Kangol--Designed in England but manufactured as most items these days in Asia--Fortunately it seems to be made properly and sized as indicated--Service from the dealer was above and beyond expectations--Prompt delivery--Two days from East Coast to
    West Coast.

I tell my wife this is my Debonair Hat. It is warm, stylish and easy to maintain and holds it shape even after your grandson sits on it.

Perhaps it is a different model I was looking for. The hat I recieved was very soft and flexible wool, in black. The fit and sizing was fine. It seems to be well made.
But I was looking for a replacement for a Kangol hat that looked just like the picture, but was without seams and held a shape. This one is soft and floppy. Is there another model that is shaped? Fifty years ago, what I was seeking was called a Shetland cap, while this one was called a flat cap or a soft cap. Now I will try to never leave my hat or cap in a resturant. The soft hat does have the advantage that it can go in a pocket rather than on a rack or shelf.

Ordered this hat in a size L to replace one I purchased about twelve years ago. Honestly the new one does not seem to be near as nice in terms of quality. The material (wool) just doesn't seem to be as high quality. Maybe its just me. Additionally, the size L is just too large. The hat fits much to loosely on my head, so much so that I probably won't wear it much if at all. I don't know if outsourcing and quality control are the problem here, but unfortunately I suspect that is the case. I'll rate it 3 stars instead of 2 only because I liked the previous one so much and hope that I just got a lemon this time. Not too upset though; it's only a hat.

This hat was purchased for my father as a Christmas present. He wanted a hat that was warm and looked like a newsboy cap. This hat fit the bill, he loves it!!
