Don't Let The "Sub Only" Keep You From Buying This,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens Vol. 1 (DVD)
This is an excellent show. Don't let the "sub only" aspect keep you from buy it. Superb writing, great voice acting and an intriguing story. The animation is top notch. Considering how expensive it is to license and distribute anime in North America, I'm grateful a company took the risk and made this available.
A most buy for any serious anime fan.

Ah My Goddess gets the Familiar Of Zero treatment.,
By The Amazing Rando "FREAK" (Valdosta ,GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens Vol. 1 (DVD)
This show is basically Ah My Goddess meets Familiar of Zero. The story is basically the same as Goddess, a hopeless loser meets a goddess when a sculpture he carved out of a sacred tree turns into Nagi, a goddess who possessed the sacred tree. At first she's upset the the tree is gone but after some experience in the human world she's fine with it. But because the tree is gone it releases some creatures know as impurities upon the Earth and it's up to Nagi and Jin( the hopeless loser from before) to defeat them. I don't want to spoil the ending but this 13 episode series is full of genuine laughs and sad moments but it's definitely a series worth picking up. Remember Nagi needs your faith to become more powerful...

ANOTHER GOOD SHOW RUINED BY GREED,

This review is from: Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens Vol. 1 (DVD)
Kannagi: It's a 14 Episode series that Bandai is releasing 7 eps at a time.
It's over priced, this is a subtitle only and the only possible plus is the lower compression then the import [...] What little i could see of the free episode from Bandai the subtitles are about the same, maybe they improve later but i couldn't tell from the little i was able to see. I enjoyed the series and if it were dub in English I'd buy it again. Bandai has delayed the release of it's dubbed titles to release these overpriced subtitle only dvd's.

Sorry to tell these companies but a subtitled only release and no english language track= no sale.
When i would have been wiling to pay extra for a dub, especially if it was as excellent as the one done for haruhi season 1. What good is a sub only release? DVD was created for multiple audio streams and a dual language release sounds like a no brainer. What about people that have already seen this show, justifying the purchase is a little baffling. That being said those who watched the illegal fansubs should pay for the offcial release so the artists and creators get paid for their work. I believe i already have some of this show on region 2 japan releases so to justify the purchase with no dub is a joke especially since you know the episodes will be crammed onto disc in a lower bitrate and ac3 only when i think the japan release had PCM. I will say the subs are very nice and accurate but i am not changing my 1 star rating, as i'm trying to make a point against the no dubs policy of bandai. I want to do it without being a troll, just want to get my point across as a consumer. And i know i may eventually have to just accept this completely unacceptable in the usa policy and buy the dvd's, because the legal streaming episodes are far worse because of the advertisements. How much do they have to pay a language to text translator? Because it cannot have cost them as much as a dub would have, even so i would have paid extra for one. I want to support the american anime industry and a sub only release is completely unacceptable. They would not pull this crap when releasing one of our films or cartoons in japan it most certainly would be dubbed. But those who have english as a first language are left out in the cold. I'm not reading a book, i want a dub then i can watch it the second time around with the original language track as i always have done with dvds when they were smart enough to make them multilingual. And i will not for a second listen to the dubs are always bad crap, english language tracks have as much chance at sucking as do the japan language tracks. Believe it or not in rare cased the american dub is better. |
