Boone Harrison is a small town sheriff who just found out his sister was raped and murdered in the big town of Kansas City. He comes to the town to find out what happened and to help - in his own way that may get him in some trouble with local law enforcement.
Kate Kilpatrick is a forensic psychologist who works for the police department both as their PR person for the media and as a counselor for employee problems they may have.
The Red Rose Rapist has been terrorizing the Kansas City area for several years however this is the first time someone was murdered. The police try to stem the tide of panic as they try to investigate the rape and murder hoping to finally catch the person responsible.
A great suspenseful read to the end with a twist I was not expecting. I really enjoyed both Boone and Kate; they have both been hurt in a similar way in the past and have a hard time with trusting. There seems to be an immediate spark between them and although deep into the investigation of the murder, their relationship develops into something more. When danger comes to Kate twice in a short amount of time both Boone and Kate realize that they must make the leap to trust one another. I am looking forward to the next story.

When small town Sheriff Boone Harrison finds out his only sister has been raped and murdered in Kansas City, he drops everything to go to KC to find out who did this to his sister. Of course the KCPD is not wanting any of Boone's help. The psychologist Dr. Kate Kilpatrick is the spokesperson for the Task force and so is put with Boone to try and keep him out of the investigation. When Kate is in danger then Boone becomes her protector. The story leads you in circles and then the ending is so out of the realm of what I would have thought would happen. Good story in the The Precinct Task Force series. Sorry I haven't read any of the others.

4 STARS Sheriff Boone Harrison gets told that his little sister was raped and murdered in the big city. He is still in his hometown the only one of the 5 children and as the oldest he feels he let down his sister. He plans to make sure her killer is found. Forensic psychologist Kate Kilpatrick is on the red rose rape task force, she is also the police media rep. She gets to talk to the reporters and help calm the city. Now this rapist has now upped his violence to murder. She is at the scene where the body was dumped talking to reporters when A cowboy with a gun pulled her away and started to demand answers. Kate helped Boone with some answers and when her car was defaced and blood used to threaten her he is thier to help her. Both Kate and Boone had spouses that cheated on them so it is hard to trust for both of them. They both are attracted to each other. Boone plans to spend time helping to catch his sister's killer and when he finds out that Kate is getting text threats he lets her boss of the task force know and he agrees to help protect her. I liked it but have problem of the next book in the series not coming out till 2013. The problem i have with the story is he should not be in with his sister's body while the medical examiner is working on her. Thier were some twists that I guessed right and some I did not see coming. I liked Kate character and would love to see more of her in upcoming books. I was given this book to read in exchange of honest reviews from Netgalley. 08/01/2012 PUB. Harlequin Imprint Harlequin Intrigue 224 pages

Boone Harrison is a small town sheriff who goes to the big city to find out why his baby sister was raped and murdered. His first encounter is with Kate Kilpatrick, the Rose Red Rapist task force's PR rep and psychologist. Kate uses her psychology to help him with his grief while trying to keep him from interfering with their investigation.

As PR rep, Kate has her own issues with a certain reporter. Both Boone and Kate have trust issues due to their failed marriages; however them both having the same issue in their respective marriages was a bit too coincidental. But, it explained their resistance to trust in another person who is so opposite from themselves as they are: Boone is a man of action; Kate a woman of words. When Kate is put in danger not once, but twice, his way works once and hers the other. A major trust breakthrough for the couple.

Boone and Kate are older and more mature, so reading their story and love evolve felt more realistic. A little bit of insight into the Rose Red Rapist was revealed and the murder of Boone's sister not fitting his profile lead to another person involved. Discovering the real killer was a twist, but I figured it out earlier in the book.

A good book in the series. The characters in this series have been more real than hot model types in most romance novels. Looking forward to the books that haven't come out yet in this series and the reveal of who the serial rapist is.

Highly recommend any of Julie Miller's Precinct Series. This book is part of "The Precinct: Task Force" series and that entire series is wonderful. I can't wait for the last two books in this series!

The book starts out with another death in this series of women being killed by a serial killer. Except for a few inconsistencies the task force is not quite sure their unsub has done this particular crime of murder. The women that was killed apparently was the sister to law enforcement brothers outside of Kansas City, Mo.
In receiving the devastating news that his sister was killed her eldest brother, Sheriff Boone Harrison arrives in KC to investigate was his sister was killed and put his two cents worth in the task force's investigation.
There were many instances when Boone and Kate butted heads in the investigation as well as with the lead detective by the name of Spencer Montgomery.
Throughout the book Boone was a horses behind at times but you could sympathize with him due to the circumstances surrounding his sisters murder.
Towards the end of the book a surprise twist to the investigation and the real killer is named which was a shock.
Hope this helps for future Julie Miller fans and readers.
