Editorial Reviews

The 1985 World Series championship was the crowning moment for the Kansas City Royals franchise. In 1985 the club overcame a late season deficit to win the Division trailed Toronto in the ALCS 3 games to 1 to rally for the pennant and capped the delirious ride with World Series history-making victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Under the even-keeled guidance of manager Dick Howser and led by veteran stars George Brett Frank White Dan Quisenberry Willie Wilson and the precocious pitching of Bret Saberhagen the Royals persevered and conquered their cross-state opponents. The seven games in this remarkable DVD collection showcase the rollercoaster of intra-state emotions as the Cardinals flew out to grab three quick wins only to have the Royals capture the final three games in oh-so-dramatic fashion.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Thrill Of It All - It's About Time! June 16, 2010
It's about time! I am a Kansas City native and lifelong baseball fan and have been eagerly waiting this World Series arrival on dvd. Ive collected many other World Series releases and this is - for me - the big one. Growing up in the 80's and in Kansas City being able to watch the Royals come so close so many times in their 70's rivalry with the Yankees and then with their loss to the Phillies in the 1980 sereis, to have the Royals along with George Brett and so many more win the championship meant a lot to so many. I am very happy to see this release finally happen as it is probably the most remembered World Series of the 80's, or if not, it at least started the trend of memorable series's throughout the last half of the 80's decade as 85-89 are some of the best. (86, 87, and 88 are already on dvd, so after this release I'll still be waiting for the 1989 A's/Giants earthquake series which is also another personal favorite). Of course here you have, at least to me, two extremely great teams The Royals and The Cardinals with some exceptional players - future hall of famers like George Brett and Ozzie Smith, rookies like Bret Saberhagen and Vince Coleman, veterans like Frank White and John Tudor and so many other fondly remembered players and coaches. This world series is incredible and should be remembered for so much more than the infamously botched call in game 6. I could rant on forever about both teams and their rosters but I wont - just check it out for yourself. This was a great series with two similar yet totally different teams - and teams unlike what you would see today. Its Howsers Royals vs. The Cardinals Whitey ball! Read more ›

I purchased this for father's day. If you are a old or new Royals fan, I would strongly recommend purchasing the set. The picture quality is completely restored and the sound is also great.

Even though I am a Cardinal fan...this was great.
The quality of the games was good.
Tremendous hearing the original announcers for each game in the series.
You can skip innings or go back an inning if you want.
Well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic 7 Game Series October 14, 2012
Verified Purchase
I was 8 years old when I watched the Royals, my favorite team, win this series. Out of nostalgia -- and since they haven't won since -- I recently purchased the DVD to relive the joy of my childhood.

It was a worthy purchase.

The series is packed with drama throughout and even though I knew how it ended I found myself involved in every pitch.

Perhaps the most valuable aspect of the set is watching George Brett bat roughly 30 times. His stance and swing are still unparalleled.

The audio and video are far from perfect, but they are infinitely better than my betamax copies of the same games.

The extras are interesting, especially those that tell the story of the journey of both teams to the series. I only wish the extras on George Brett and Bret Saberhagen would have been longer than several minutes. Had they done full blown featurettes on these guys it would be a five star collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars I70 World Series April 18, 2013
Verified Purchase
I remember this World Series very well. I was living in Jefferson City, MO at the time and a buddy of mine and I went to every one of those games. After watching the DVD's, it brought back great memories of the time we had traveling back and forth from Kansas City to St. Louis. I was for Kansas City and my buddy was for St. Louis. We had a blast. I called and told him about this DVD set and he went out and immediately bought him a copy. If you are a Kansas City Royal fan, you don't want to miss out on this DVD set. More than five stars.
