Fine edition, except for...,

Missing the editorial notes from the Practical Philosophy volume of the Cambridge Edition of the Works of Immanuel Kant, despite the fact that the numbers of the notes are retained in the text! This seems like a silly, wholly unnecessary oversight, since the editorial notes for the Critique of Practical Reason run to all of three pages!

A Formula for Modern Ethics,

Kant's insistence on using a general maxim in formulating the categorical imperative is its Achilles heel. A more specific maxim, one that takes into account the universal properties of the matter at hand, enables us to avoid all of the problems associated with never lying (e.g., to save Jews from Nazis) or killing (e.g., just war).
