5.0 out of 5 stars Dawkins at his best
As an avid Dawkins listener throughout the past 20 years, I feel that Jimmy has continued to grow and be innovative as an artist. This CD is of particular interest in that Jimmy is backed by his protege, Billy Flynn. These two have maintained a close professional and personal relationship throughout the years since meeting in the early 1970's. Their partnership on...

2.0 out of 5 stars cookie cutter blues
I wish I could say something nice about this CD but, I love the blues too much to endorse this sorry effort. With all due respect to Mr. Dawkins who was very influencial in the day, this CD sounds like it was manufactured, not felt. Besides a very sterile type studio recording, what's up with that guitar tone!!? Anyone who's been playing as long as he has should know how...

This review is from: Kant Sheck Dees Bluze (Audio CD)
As an avid Dawkins listener throughout the past 20 years, I feel that Jimmy has continued to grow and be innovative as an artist. This CD is of particular interest in that Jimmy is backed by his protege, Billy Flynn. These two have maintained a close professional and personal relationship throughout the years since meeting in the early 1970's. Their partnership on this CD is synergistic. While Flynn has gone on to develop his own style and reputation as a dynamic blues stylist, Billy also shows deep respect for his mentor Jimmy Dawkins on this CD. It is a great pairing and Dawkins continues to speak and play honestly through his music.

With all due respect to Mr. Dawkins who was very influencial in the day, this CD sounds like it was manufactured, not felt. Besides a very sterile type studio recording, what's up with that guitar tone!!? Anyone who's been playing as long as he has should know how to get a decent guitar tone and even if he's getting older and losing his hearing, why didn't the producer say something? I mean, it sounds like some kid practicing in his bed room through a cheapo Peavey amp. Even the famous and competent backing musicians couldn't save this from disaster. Sorry Jimmy, you gotta do better than this.
