I purchased this book via Next Day Delivery on December 23, 2005 so I could receive it next day (24th) to study for the ASVAB test I was scheduled to take on December 28, 2005. I had only 4 days to read it. THIS BOOK IS AWESOME! I went through all the chapters with ease. Every chapter is full of details and graphics.

It first starts with a FULL practice test, to see how well you are doing in each part of the ASVAB. With this results, you can clearly see on what areas you need to work hard. From here it starts covering the AFTQ sections (WK, PC, AR, MK) and then all the sub-tests from electronics to science; they cover everything! After studying, you end your preparation with 2 FULL practice tests so you can see how much you improved; and it WILL be a LOT!

Believe me, what you study in the KAPLAN 2006 ASVAB review is what you will GET on the ASVAB. At least that was my experience. It's so good to refresh your knowledge of basic science, math, electronics, mechanic, physics, assembling objects, shop, paragraph comprehension and word knowledge that it surely is a "MUST-KEEP" for future reference. This is one of the BEST purchases of my life.

And so that you would know how much it helped me, my AFQT score was a "modest" 97! With a GT score of: ARMY 135, NAVY 133, MARINES 138. Not to mention the outstanding scores on the sub-tests. I destroyed the ASVAB, thanks to God, my previous knowledge and effort, but also in great part thanks to the Kaplan 2006 ASVAB review. A BEST BUY!

The Kaplan guide has everything I needed to prepare myself for the exam. The book was a great help for refreshing my memory in math and English for the test. Timing yourself on the practice tests is also a great way to make sure you are ahead of the game and never worry about time in the actual test.

You will need to sit down and spend hours doing practice test and studying the material in the book but in the end it is worth it. The books three practice tests and study guides contained information that was invaluable in taking the test.

The procedures and shortcuts they taught allowed me to feel confident taking the test. The material for some of the sections allowed me to score well in areas I really don't have much experience with (Automotive, electronics, science) Others have said the math was too hard but it meant that there was not one question I ran into to that I was unable to answer with time to spare.

I would say this is one of the best study guides I have ever seen or used but be prepared to spend time doing the work. As I said it will take hours to go through the material and learn what you need. I believed this book had a direct result in scoring an AFQT of 99. Excellent Book!

This book is detailed and extensive in its coverage of ASVAB topics. The one complaint I would lodge is that it's math sample tests use questions that are, in general, much harder than anything you will encounter on the real test. The real test is basic math with nothing very tricky. If you can master the Kaplan practice tests you WILL score a 96 or better on the real ASVAB. The instructional sections are good (especially the verbal), with good advice and test taking strategies. I would recommend the "ARCO ASVAB Math Review" for a more realistic representation of the math portion of the test. I used both this book and the ARCO book and scored a 97 (highest is 99).

I am glad I purchased this book before taking the ASVAB to join the Air Force. I looked at it as one of the most important tests I will ever take. Not because it is necessarily difficult, but because it is used to qualify me for a job that I am going to be stuck with for at least the next 4 years of my life. If you score poorly, it narrows down your choice of jobs considerably and you may end up doing something you aren't particularly excited about.

The book has several full length practice tests, including a preliminary test they give you at the front of the book that you take before you start studying, so that you know where your weak areas are, and what to focus on as you study. It has large areas focused on the AFQT sections, as well as sections for the General Science, Shop Knowledge, etc.

I needed to brush up on my math the most, and was pleased to find that they provided a lot of helpful shortcuts specific to the ASVAB to help you get through it quicker and easier.

I found the questions in the book to be considerably more difficult than the questions on the actual test. The actual test covered very basic algebra (factoring, order of operations, simple equations) and very basic geometry, and the rest was arithmetic and word problems. If you score well in the practice tests in this book, you will do even better on the real test!

You can also ask your recruiter if they have a practice ASVAB test available that you can take in their office. It is an abbreviated test that only covers the AFQT portions, but it should give you a good idea of what you need to focus on, and what your final score will be. I got 99th percentile on the pre-test from the recruiter, and got 99th percentile on the real test as well, so it is a pretty good estimation of what your score will be.

The book is definitely worth the small price you pay. If you are joining the military, this is an important test that can affect your life for the next 4 - 20 years, don't be unprepared!

I purchased this for my granddaughter who was preparing to take the ASVAB test. She said it was a great help to her.
