Worthless review guide,
By In the know (Pacifica) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kaplan CCRN, 2009 Edition: Certification for Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal Critical Care Nurses (Kaplan Ccrn: Certification for Adult, Pediatric & Neonatal Care) (Paperback)
I found this guide to be too basic and incomplete. It will likely not give you enough information to pass the exam and the practice exams are worthless- way too easy. Having purchased three CCRN review guides- Pass CCRN, Critical Care Nursing Certification: Preparation, Review and Practice Exams, and this one, I can say without a doubt that this one is the worst.
Having just passed the exam, if I had to do it over again I would have only purchased the Ahren book, Critical Care Nursing Certification. I hope this helps and good luck.

Very Dissappointed,

This review is from: Kaplan CCRN, 2009 Edition: Certification for Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal Critical Care Nurses (Kaplan Ccrn: Certification for Adult, Pediatric & Neonatal Care) (Paperback)
I am very dissappointed with this book. The book does not separate out the text. Therefore, if you are studying pediatrics you have to go thru all of the adult info(which anyone who works in peds knows, it's not the same). Also, the practice tests are not separated either, so they have a 150 question test but it relates to Adult, peds & neonatal. Why would I be studying & practicing test questions for an adult exam I am not going to take. I thought the book was a waste of my time and money and so I returned it. It is a very hard read even if you try to separate out the info yourself, it's very frustrating.

This book is more like a basic overview of the body systems and introduction to the broad concepts of critical care nursing. I don't see it as a study guide for board certification. The typos, contradictions, and editorial mistakes undermine the book's credibility and you end up feeling you can't trust the information.
I just can't recommend it.

Don't waste your money, get Pass CCRN! instead.,

My colleague purchased this to review for the adult CCRN and we both reviewed it and it was the more worthless thing I have seen yet. Wrong answers, misprints, poorly worded questions. Having just taken the CCRN, I can tell you that if this was the book I had used, I would have flunked. It didn't look any better from the neonatal or pediatric side either. Try Pass CCRN! or Critical Care Certification by T. Ahern, they won't disappoint.

Do not buy this book.,

This review is from: Kaplan CCRN, 2009 Edition: Certification for Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal Critical Care Nurses (Kaplan Ccrn: Certification for Adult, Pediatric & Neonatal Care) (Paperback)
It is unfortunate that Kaplan let this book pass into publication. It is poorly researched, poorly designed, and it has countless typos (some pretty important ones). Rather than providing a useful, informative guide for those who are likely to be seeking certification (experienced, advanced critical care nurses), this book consists almost entirely of material which can only be called a scant overview of the topic.
I do concede that some of the specific test-taking tips might be useful. "Pass CCRN" is a much, much better guide, and it costs about the same.

This book was the worst purchase I ever made. Everything I read was something I already knew. No tricks, no shortcuts, no pneumonics.....Nothing!! What a COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!! I am really disappointed in KAPLAN for creating such a huge waste of paper. I wouldnt recommend this book to anyone!! If I could have, I would have rated it negative zero. DONT BUY!!

Great book. Very simple to understand without going into too much detail. I hope it will prepare me for the PCCN exam!

The ad said it was for a new book and the cover was damaged. It should not have been listed as new. Other than the damaged cover the book arrived in a timely manner.

I used the Kaplan NCLEX-RN review before taking the boards, and this one is proving to be just as helpful. It covers questions about taking the exam and how to prepare mentally, not just questions that will be on the exam. It also has a money back guarantee. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to take the CCRN exam and do well. I would buy anything by Kaplan again.

I am planning to take my CCRN exam in the year 2009, and I have heard good things about Kaplan review books. I have just started to use the book and so far it is great. I'm happy.
