If you are new to the GMAT, Kaplan Premier is a great book to start with - it provides a good intro to the test (explains the mechanics, basic priciples, gets you familar with the test structure, etc), has solid strategies that you can use regardless of your level, and finally, comes with 6 Adaptive tests. Think of it a starter camera/computer/car/etc - you don't want to start with anything expensive before you know what you are looking for actually. On the flip side, this book will last you for 2-4 weeks and most likely will only boost your score with 50-100 points. If you want a greater increase (and have 3 months to study, look below)

~~~ THE GOOD: ~~~
* Solid material with great Math and Verbal strategies as well as some background
* Good structure and layout; helps if you are a visual learner
* 6 Full GMAT Tests (5 are in adaptive CAT format on the online and 1 is in a paper format in the book)
* Online practice with additional exercises and quizzes - 18 online drills (increased by 3 since the 2011 edition)
* Much of general info on gmat has been moved into online video format, called Fast Fact Videos; that helps with learning when you have had too much reading for the day
* Great value for the money with 6 Full GMAT tests, practice questions, and many online Quizzes
* The only book on the market right now that covers INTEGRATED REASONING. There are 34 pages covering this new section of the GMAT scheduled to be live on/after June 5th 2012. (This is the only change by the way since the 2012 edition of the book came out in May 2011)
~~~ THE BAD: ~~~
* Exact copy of the previous editions of this book - would expect a bit more revision from a new edition.
* Access to the online components expires after 1 year.

Let me preface this review by stating that I'm nearly 8 years removed from undergrad, and I did NOT do exceptionally well in college. For the individual who excelled in college and took the experience serious for all 4 years, this review is not for you...for the indivudals who are at a crossroad in their career and in hindsight may have struggled in undergrad, this review may be a little more applicable.

I would also say that before individuals begin studying any material, begin by planning out a study schedule, because that will ultimately be the key to your success, along with many hours of practice.

In terms of the value of this guide, I would say that it's very good at giving a good starting point for those of us who have been out of "study mood" for awhile. It does a good job of laying out the format of the exam, and also sets the tone early by letting the test taker know this is not an easy exam. Below are my pro's and con's specifically about the contect of the material:

Pro's

- General language that isn't hard to understand
- Good variety of practice questions. The guide will indicate whether a quesion is normal or advanced
- Very good explanations on the correct AND incorrect answers. Always remember to review your correct answers as well as incorrect
- Math refresher at the end of the book, which I would assume most people who have been out of school for awhile will need

Con's

- Because practice is ultimately what you need to focus on, the book does not always do a great job of going into detail about the subject matter (i.e. sentence completion).
- The books is good for beginners, but is sometimes positioned for 2nd time test takers.

I am in the middle of preparing for the GMAT and I love this book! The tips about each section of the test are very helpful and I really enjoy all the practice questions. The online component is also a great feature. It is nice to take practice tests that adapt like the real exam. I was extremely intimidated by the GMAT but the more I use this book the better I feel about the exam. I recommend this to anyone who has to take the GMAT. And, I will update this review in September once I take the GMAT and comment about how this book helped my score.

I would say this book is not bad but its not that informative either. It can be a good starting though. But there is no list of vocabulary and enough example about essays questions.

I ordered this book in order to study for the GMAT. It served it's purpose well. The book outlines each of the different sections and question types on the GMAT and gives concrete examples and guidance for how to dissect the question type and successfully tease out the answer. It also does a good job of highlighting the most important aspects, allowing you to spend your precious study time on the hardest and most common question types. I'd recommend this book to anyone prepping for the GMAT.

I was not able to activate my online CAT exams , it was saying that the offer is not valid any more.
i have send email to Kaplan Customer Care in order to get some explanation after one week 0 answer.
So from my first glance i will not rely to this company , as they do not seem customer oriented.
