Disappointing interface/buggy software,
By Dandy Fan (The Old North State) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kaplan GMAT/GRE/LSAT (CD-ROM)
Kaplan have gone for a quirky, novelty cartoon-themed interface which doesn't run well on Windows XP.I find the interface unhelpful - it reminds me of Web sites from the late 1990's, where the navigation elements were themed on the topic of the site: a site about cats would have a cat's tail as a link to care and feeding of cats; a cat's head would take you to a page about training cats etc. You know what I mean. Kaplan's 2006 Platinum Edition suffers from the same poor navigation design. My problem with this style of navigation is that I never feel confident that I know where everything is, and that I've read everything. As I mentioned above, the software doesn't run very well on XP, and this is the 2006 edition. The software has a few major sections: lessons, practice tests, and full-length tests. The practice tests work fine; it's the lessons that are buggy: The software will skip pages as you read from one to the next, which means that you are missing out on important information. The kind of information you paid good money to Kaplan for. All in all, I'd avoid this software unless you are looking for practice and full-length tests. |
