Good Idea, Poor Execution,
This review is from: Kaplan LSAT Advanced, 2009-2010 Edition (Kaplan LSAT 180) (Paperback)
This book is theoretically a good idea. It contains only real LSAT questions selected from various tests that students had the most trouble with. While I wasn't a huge fan of a few of their explanations/diagramming techniques, I would imagine that most people using a book of only the hardest questions would have a pretty good grasp of the material already anyway so that wouldn't be a big deal. The benefits of having all the hard questions in one place to test yourself with outweighs the shortcomings of a few inadequate explanations. The larger issue (and a dealbreaker for me) is that this book is HORRIBLY edited. The errors and typos are egregious and a little ridiculous. An example includes an instance where they present a question, but offer an explanation for a DIFFERENT QUESTION so you have no idea what the right answer was supposed to be. This is a problem when they also don't tell you what test these questions come from so even if you have all the tests, you still can't use the answer keys to figure out the correct answer. Additionally, the problem of not listing which test the question came from means that you have no way of avoiding questions from tests you haven't taken yet. This means that it could skew your diagnostic tests so that's something to be wary of. I think some people could still find this book useful. However, because of various limitations, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're almost done studying so you won't ruin all your diagnostics, and that way a few insufficient explanations here and there won't bug you a lot. Just don't review using this book too close to your test date -- in case something is unclear due to a poor explanation or typos that leave you confused, you don't want to be wracked with insecurity on your test date. I'd give this 2 and a half stars if that were an option.

A great collection of tough questions, but large number of errors reduce its value,

This review is from: Kaplan LSAT Advanced, 2009-2010 Edition (Kaplan LSAT 180) (Paperback)
As a final tune up for the LSAT, this is a great collection of the most difficult problems. However, there are just too many errors for it to be a truly valuable resource. Consider the frustration of agonizing and deciding on an answer only to find out that the given explanation (and answer) is discussing a different problem. What do you learn?Overall, I would still recommend working through this book if you have run out of other material and want to focus on the most difficult aspects of the LSAT. Just be prepared to be a bit frustrated every 5-10 pages!

Too Many Errors!,
By JO to JD (Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kaplan LSAT Advanced, 2009-2010 Edition (Kaplan LSAT 180) (Paperback)
I have the advanced book and the LSAT 2010 book. The standard book is racked with errors. I find new ones every day. For the most part, you can search around to find the right answer/explanation because in most cases they just switched them around. I am astounded that such a reputable company printed errors into thousands of books. My fault for assuming the quality would match the reputation. Seeking a refund...It's not that it's been a total waste of time, but I definitely recommend looking at other options for basic instruction and only taking official practice tests (the LSAC book of 10 practice tests, for example).

lsat advanced,
This review is from: Kaplan LSAT Advanced, 2009-2010 Edition (Kaplan LSAT 180) (Paperback)
This product ultimately helped me in learning tips to do better on some LSAT sections; however, there were a few typing errors (or typos) that should not have been in a book like this.

new edition, new author,

I have studied through several editions of this workbook but was pleasantly surprised with this one. It was re-written by a new author who clearly demonstrates a strong understanding of logical reasoning and reading comprehension, both of which are vital in acquiring a high Lsat score. I was most impressed with the techniques and detailed explanations found in this version. Give this a try, you will not be disappointed!

This review is from: Kaplan LSAT Advanced, 2009-2010 Edition (Kaplan LSAT 180) (Paperback)
This book challenged me and presented problems more difficult than those encountered in the LSAT: Remember the toughest question on the LSAT? This book has it and several hundred more. In studying for the LSAT I began with Kaplan's LSAT 180, the Kaplan Logic Games workbook, two books of 10 LSATs from years past, and then I still had a month until the test. So I completed this book and it prepared me for the inevitable curve ball that may not be seen on reprinted LSATs. It's a difficult book, but it helped me, especially with the oddball logic games. I broke 170 on the exam which may or may not be partially attributable to this book, but it cannot hurt to challenge yourself with these problems if you have the time.

Do NOT buy: Atrocious Editing,
By
This review is from: Kaplan LSAT Advanced, 2009-2010 Edition (Kaplan LSAT 180) (Paperback)
This book should be pulled from stores and full refunds given to those who bought it. There are major editing errors where answers and questions do not line up at all and it is very difficult to find the correct answer/explanations. For instance, page 198 has an answer/explanation that is not for the given problem. Many other answers cite incorrect problem numbers. It appears that the information in this book was copied and pasted from other books incorrectly making this book useless. For $25 there should be no major errors like this. The book is not useful for improving your score because you may get a false sense of the correct way to work through problems even when you already answered them correctly. Many Kaplan products I have used were also poorly edited in similar ways but not nearly this bad.

Not the best Kaplan product. I really like Kaplan, so it's good, but it definitely isn't their best study guide.

Terrible Editing,
This review is from: Kaplan LSAT Advanced, 2009-2010 Edition (Kaplan LSAT 180) (Paperback)
As others have written, this book is terribly edited. I can't think of a bigger barrier to preparing for the exam than having to figure out the missing words in the question of the test prep book. There is not easily accessible errata online. Unfortunately, I had not seen your reviews before hand or I would not have wasted my time and money. I plan to ask Kaplan for a full refund.
