This book does a great job of presenting sound strategies for tackling the different kinds of LSAT questions. If you're disciplined, you can probably prep on your own with this book instead of paying for the entire Kaplan course.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with Mac computers.
I have not yet begun using this book to study for the LSAT - but after reading through the fine print in the book, I realized that the CD-ROM included is NOT compatible with a Mac computer. It would have been nice if the Amazon website indicated this to begin with. I don't need to be buying something I can't even use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Strategy book, August 11, 2006
This book does a great job of presenting sound strategies for tackling the different kinds of LSAT questions. If you're disciplined, you can probably prep on your own with this book instead of paying for the entire Kaplan course.

Moreover, Kaplan's last version of this book was heavily criticized for not using real LSAT questions. Kaplan answered those criticisms by including 3 real LSATs in this version (PrepTest 7: February 1993, PrepTest 13: December 1994, and PrepTest 8). More importantly, Kaplan provides detailed explanations of all the answers in the three tests. However be aware that two of the real LSATs in this book (PreTest 7 and 13) can also be found in LSAC's 10 Actual, Official LSATs book. (Pretest 8 is not found in any other test book bundle).

This book does have the usual typos that plague most test prep books, but the typos are infrequent and inconsequential in my opinion. Overall, this book is a very useful addition to anyone's LSAT study materials.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for jump starting your LSAT studies, September 27, 2007
By
This review is from: Kaplan LSAT 2008, Premier Program (w/ CD-ROM) (Kaplan LSAT Premier Program (W/CD)) (Paperback)
This book is very good for beginning your LSAT studies. The book excels at getting you familiar with the LSAT, which I believe is its primary purpose. For people looking for the LSAT "silver-bullet," this book isn't that. Anyone looking to begin their LSAT studies should look no further than this book, but once its done its job of familiarizing you with the test then you have to move on to tougher, more focused material such as the Logic Games Bible. 4 stars for being a good book for LSAT beginners, I would only give 5 stars to a "silver-bullet only book you need for the LSAT book," which I'm sorry to say does not exist.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Mac Friendly, September 7, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
While I find the contents of the book sufficient, I am peeved that no mention was made of the CD being Windows only. I specifically purchased this book over some other choices, because I thought the CD would be a valuable supplement. If you don't have access to Windows or were planning to study on a Macintosh or Unix box, then save the additional cost and do not buy this book as it is available for less without the CD.

Updated 9/29/06: Tomorrow is the big test. Between this book, Cracking the LSAT by the Princeton Review and LSAC's published tests, I'm about as prepared as I can be. I found the information in this book useful, although they give themselves too much credit by claiming some tips as "Kaplan Exclusives" when they aren't, in fact, exclusive.

I borrowed a Windows computer to use the disk and found the tests quite helpful in that they timed me and kept track of my strengths and weaknesses, which I think is very beneficial. A neat feature is that one can cross out answers that aren't correct when doing process of elimination, just like one can on paper tests.

One thing, though, is that last night while taking a test, the application crashed right after I finished and did not save my answers. Ugh!

I'm not sure which I liked better, Kaplan or Princeton Review, as they're both good and I don't think you could go wrong with either. Or, like me, you could buy both if you have enough time before the test.

Oh yeah, good luck and see ya in court!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kaplan LSAT Study Book, January 4, 2007
The Kaplan LSAT study guide is comprehensive. It is a great tool from the start of your LSAT journey even up to giving tips about how to apply to law school afterwards. I would recommend using it in addition to the Logic Games Bible, which breaks down the process, but the Kaplan book is a good investment. There are plenty of practice problems in the Kplan and explainations which is key.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not good enough, June 20, 2007
The Good: contains great strategy for approaching the logical reasoning, and Reading comprehension sections as well as some good food for thought on writing your essay.

The Bad: The logical analysis section of the actual LSAT is much more difficult than the logical analysis section of any of the Kaplan sample problems or sample tests. I took the LSAT a week ago and ended up cancelling my score because I was unable to answer a third of the questions in that section in the time alloted even though I did well on the practice tests in this book. Do not take the advice given here about scanning all the problems in the section before starting. This is a complete waste of precious time. Practice as much as possible and when you're taking the test, start working immediately!

Overall, great prep for most of the LSAT, I'm going to seek out another book or two to help me with the logical analysis section, as well as ordering the next 10 LSATs from lsac for practice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money, April 22, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kaplan LSAT 2008, Premier Program (w/ CD-ROM) (Kaplan LSAT Premier Program (W/CD)) (Paperback)
Has 3 practice test which is a great value, plus I wanted to practice more logical reasoning questions and was curious about the cd. I had a host of problems running it in vista but to be honest I have xp on my other computers so it was really no big deal. But I would just like to warn people that you will have issues in Vista and its not Mac compatible I gave the rating four stars because the application crashed under my Vista laptop midway through which pissed me off. I just finished the logical reasoning section which was helpful.

I would buy this to start studying and order more practice test to study. I feel they should of added more study questions on the logical review but otherwise a great tool to supplement other materials I recommend people do not use this as sole aid though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking book, but no results on actual test, July 9, 2008
This review is from: Kaplan LSAT 2008, Premier Program (w/ CD-ROM) (Kaplan LSAT Premier Program (W/CD)) (Paperback)
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this book as a way of improving your score on the LSAT. Despite the fact it gives a nice assortment of practice questions, where it lacks is in developing a strategy to pass the actual LSAT test. I studied over a 6 month period using this book, and did just about every question. My practice results rarely rose above more than 50% correct, minus reading comprehension which I did well, usually 75% correct. Overall, just not a good way to improve score or pass the test. My score the first time around on the LSAT was 137 using this book, not good. I am not sure if there is something else out there to improve scores, or if it is even possible to improve a score on a test of this nature, but I would not recommend this book to improve scoring. It is too shallow with strategy. I think the writers of the book expect that by repetition and practice, you can master the material, but it did not work for me. The book does offer some basic strategy but this did not help me too greatly.

I love this prep book. It gives great strategy tips and has great practice tests. I'm taking the LSAT in June so I won't know how well this has prepped me until July but I think it is worth the buy. the CD is great and you have access to online content only from Kaplan. they even have a free practice test that you sign up for online where you go to their local kaplan center and sit for a practice exam that is scored. That is awesome.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but not great, May 12, 2011

This review is from: Kaplan LSAT 2008, Premier Program (w/ CD-ROM) (Kaplan LSAT Premier Program (W/CD)) (Paperback)
The book is helpful although a little short. Do not buy it as your sole source of studying. I bought it as an ancilarry book and it helped me a lot like that. Buy the 10 more real LSAT's instead for loads of tests. Good luck on your LSAT everyone !
