I got this book because I wanted to know what a good LSAT essay looks like. The hardest part for me about the essay is that the prompts ask for a defense of one of two viewpoints, both of which are generally equally defensible. I didn't find a really satisfying explanation in this book for how to deal with that problem.

The book does have some useful advice, particularly about how to approach the essay (pick a viewpoint, defend it, acknowledge and dismiss the support for the opposite viewpoint, and get out.....), but is cluttered with grammatical exercises that seemed out of place to me. This book might be helpful for someone who is not a native speaker of English or who needs to seriously brush up on grammar and basic essay structure. By that same token, however, (call me jaded....) if you're having trouble with basic essay writing and grammar issues, you might want to reconsider whether you're ready for law school.

As a professional LSAT tutor/blogger in NYC, I can say that there is absolutely, positively, NO NEED to get a book like this. The Writing Sample is incredibly simple and straightforward. All you need is 5 minutes to look over a past writing sample to understand what they're looking for on this. Don't forget that the writing sample isn't even scored! Most law schools don't care about it. Focus your time and money on the Logic Games and Logical Reasoning instead.
