GOOD STRATEGY BOOK,
By Leslie "Licensed RN" (Waipahu, HI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam 2005-2006 with CD-ROM (Kaplan NCLEX-RN (W/CD)) (Paperback)
Provided a lot of strategies that helped ease some nerves. This book tells you how to think through questions, eliminate the wrong answers instead of looking for the right one was the most important lesson learned. This book however lacked the number of questions. I used this book and the Saunder's Comprehensive Review book to study for the NCLEX-RN exam and am happy to report that I passed the exam on one try.

I really liked the booklet and the strategies that are given but the CD ROM left a little to be desired in my opinion.

SAVE your $$$ on a better book,
By BSN Nsg. Student (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam 2005-2006 with CD-ROM (Kaplan NCLEX-RN (W/CD)) (Paperback)
I was able to get through this book in only 2 days!! This entire book offers the reader ONLY strategies and no review of content. For some of you, this is what you are looking for, BUT the strategies they offer are all common sense. I have confidence that, if you were able to graduate from nursing school (ADN/BSN), you have ALREADY mastered the techniques they have to offer.
If you are looking for a good book that offers strategies I suggest using "Saunders Strategies for Success for the NCLEX-RN Examination." For a good book that reviews content I suggest using "Saunders Comprehensive Review." If you want practice questions you should use "Lippincott's Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination"

NCLEX critical thinking review,

This review is from: Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam 2005-2006 with CD-ROM (Kaplan NCLEX-RN (W/CD)) (Paperback)
This is a great tool if you are looking to learn the layout of the exam. And a great tool to understand HOW to answer NCLEX-RN questions. I found it to be very helpful so far. This book is also interesting to read. I learned a lot about exactly WHAT the test is testing in the new graduate nurse. I especially like that this review book walks you through the critical thinking steps involved in answering NCLEX questions accurately.

Test Taking Tips not Content Practice,

This review is from: Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam 2005-2006 with CD-ROM (Kaplan NCLEX-RN (W/CD)) (Paperback)
If you are looking for a book to help you learn how to take a standardized test then this is the book for you. However, if you are looking for a book to help practice content in prep for the NCLEX-RN, do NOT use this book. Saunders suits that purpose much better IMHO.

I thought the book was a waste. The CD-ROM that comes with only includes 180 questions, and the first one I got was broken - kept telling me I hadn't gotten any right, despite the fact that I did, and in the rationale it showed my answer as the correct one, but the scoring tool didn't work. I returned it and got a replacement, which also appears to be broken. Scoring tool still doesn't work. And, I'm not sure if it's just because my disc is broken, but it only lets me view the test ONCE after I've taken it. Kaplan is supposed to be a really reputable company, but I feel like they could have done a WAY better job.

Might as well not have a CD,

This review is from: Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam 2005-2006 with CD-ROM (Kaplan NCLEX-RN (W/CD)) (Paperback)
From the number of people who seem to have had problems with the CD-ROM, Kaplan might as well just sell the book without it. Mine didn't work at all. I take my boards in a few weeks, so I can't say for sure yet how helpful the book alone has been. I have done all the questions in it (I wish there were more). I am using Saunders also. I have tried everything I can think of to get the CD to work. I have tried contacting Kaplan several times and they don't respond. They seem pleased just to have gotten the money and have no interest in follow up. My Saunders CD works fine however.

Very good book to help you prepare for nursing school type test, The school I attend is very NCLEX oriented and has a graduate NCLEX pass rate of almost 100 %, including the few, and I mean very few that have to retake the nclex, they do have 100 % pass rate! This gives you some insight on the type of testing they put us through! Yes, it's tough, but when all is said and done, it will have been well worth it! EXCELLANT BOOK TO PREPARE YOU NOT ONLY FOR THE ACTUAL NCLEX, BUT NURSING SCHOOL TYPE TESTING. 5 STARS, in my opinion! P.S. to the reviews I've read after posting mine, Look under program files for KAPLAN>NCLEX>NCLEX Practice, then the testing cd works fine. When the program starts, enter ANY first name , ANY Last name , ANY 4 digit school ID Number and ANY 10 digit enrollment number.(just remember what you entered so you can continue the SAME test at a later time. It ask all this in case you quit in the middle of a test, you can continue it at a later time, or you can start all over by entering different numbers.

I actually have the 2004-2005 version, but it still helped prepare me well for the RN test (I took it a few days ago). This book is useful if you want to know how to get the right answers on the NCLEX RN test. It does not review nursing concepts and disease processes, but it is very useful to use in combination with another nursing review book. A good one that I used was the Incredibly Easy Guide to NCLEX-RN, if you want a review. If you want to know how to pass the test, get this one. The questions at the back of the book were the most useful to me as far as passing the test goes. I had 3 different CDs of questions and found these to be the best(after passing the test!). The format of these questions are closest to the kinds of questions on the test. Other CDs I used (NCLEX 3000, etc) are good, but better for the PN test.

The book promises you 180 questions and another 180 question on the CD. Well, CD does not work. How is this possible? It was made in 1998 no wonder my XP doesn't know what to do with it. SCUM !!
