I bought this book and basically had 3 weeks to prepare for both the LAST and ATS-W. this book does a Grreat job at explaining answers and giving great tips for the day of the exam. yes the LAST is a common refresher, that's not the issue , the issue is familiarizing yourself with the ways questions are worded. i took both tests on the SAME day (which was exhausting) and passed both exams on the first try!! i would definitely recommend this book to anyone wishing to take these exams! A MUST BUY and there's a guarantee you will pass.

This book helped a great deal and prepared me for the LAST exam... I would suggest anyone to get it...

I can only speak for the LAST section of the Kaplan review book (only taken that exam so far). That being said, this book does a good job of preparing you for the kind of math, science, history, literary and cultural components of the exam. No background knowledge is generally needed in approaching any answer, anyway, since all necessary information is in the actual question.

Take one or two practice exams (both in the actual review book and through the NYSTCE website) and you'll be fine. I'm a college student so a lot of the math and science from high school is still in my system. For those who have been out of school for a longer period of time, I'd agree with other reviews and say this is a great refresher manual in different subjects.

I bought this book to familiarize myself with the way the state certification exams worded their questions, and to see what they expected on their essays. This book is wonderful! I will be the first to admit that because of my crazy workload from my masters program as well as my student teaching demands, I didn't have a lot of time to view this book ( to be 100% honest I crammed the night before). However, not only did I pass all my exams with flying colors the first time around, I received the max in all of my essay responses. The LAST exam is a review of everything you have learned in high school and undergrad and it is easy, however, the ATS-W which is teacher oriented and the CST (which my content is History) are not as easy. I really suggest that you spend some time reviewing the questions in those two sections. ATS-W may be commonsensical, but the way the questions are asked are very tricky. Also pay close attention to the way you answer the essay portion of the ATS-W exam, use that formula on the actual test day and you are guaranteed not to go wrong! The CST questions on the actual exam was the equivalent of playing Jeopardy! So again, review some of the questions to go over the stuff you know and revisit some of the stuff you may have forgotten. This was a wonderful must buy!

This study guide did as promised! It informed me of the basic content of the tests, helped me practice and helped me pass. If you are about to take some of these tests, practice the essays too!

This came very quick and has a nice crisp cover. The only issue is that it did have writing in it.

I am still currently using this book to study for my LAST. I don't really like the explanation for some answers.

This book was VERY helpful!The book had wonderful tips on taking and preparing for the test.

I bought the Kaplan 2nd hand book so I could get it cheaper, but more importantly to use in my review. It was difficult to review some items because the answers were already marked in ballpen, and there were lines underlined and it was very distracting, which defeated the purpose of the review.
I will never buy a 2nd had review book again.
