It starts off by telling you all about the SAT and than shows you great tricks for practicing the Verbal Section such as Sentence Completions. After each section, you have about ten questions to test out the strategies you learned in the earlier section. After the Verbal Section, they move on to SAT Math adn they have a "Top Ten SAT Math Traps" which really helps! None of the tips are stupid such as : "Dont Mark 'E' for the Quantitive Comparisons!"

They also include an amazing three tests to practice on and lists of common words and root words so that you can find out what strange words mean by looking at the roots! They also have a summary of SAT math (really helpful!)

The CD-ROM is awesome, of course! The diagnostic test is cool to do on the computer and it comes with a personalized Study Plan. You can take lessons, play games, review flashcards, compare your scores with colleges, take practice Verbal and Math tests, or take five full length practice tests on the CD!

When I first took the diagnostic test, I got a score of 520. Not good. But when I finished reading the book and explored the CD-ROM, in less than two months, I raised my score to 740! Now that's good. More than 200 points!

If you can only buy one study guide, buy this one! It's all you'll need to score high!

I found Kaplan's methods very effective -- they're easy to follow, comprehensive, and, most importanly, they work! Besides the practice questions (of which there are many!), I especially took advantage of the Word Lists and the Math Facts. These were perfect "cheat sheets" that helped me when I needed a quick reminder of what "cosset" meant or what the formulas was for the volume of a cube while studying. The CD-ROM included some great features as well, like the feedback on my practice test performance. I was able to see how long I took on each question, and, if I changed my answer, whether I was right the first time! I highly recommend this book, it certainly helped improve my score.

My daughter is a good student (B average) but she gets nervous taking tests and she was disappointed with her spring SAT scores. I bought this book so she could study over the summer and retake the SAT in the fall. I wish I had bought this book sooner! I was surprised at how much time she spent with it (the CD-ROM helped) and it really built her confidence to see her scores on the practice tests go up over the summer. The review material like the vocabulary list and the 100 math concepts are useful too. A good book.

I never took the SAT, but now my son is facing it this fall. I bought this book so I could get a handle on the test myself. I found the Kaplan Rules and Top Ten Traps extremely helpful. Kaplan's tips and suggestions throughout the book have helped me be a great coach for my son. Armed with Kaplan's professional advice, I can now help him face the exam with confidence. PS-- My son--always stronger in math than in english-- uses the word lists everyday. That alone is worth the purchase!

This book WALKS you through everything from breathing techniques, to the most common vocab words on the SAT, to what to wear on the day of the SAT. I was very impressed with this book, I would recommend it to ANYONE. It raised at least 300 points!

This book was quite helpful to me. it helped raise my SAT from 1390 to 1580! (I'm not kidding). Of course this wasnt the only factor 'cause i also used 10 real SATs and Kaplan's SAT/ACT/PSAT software (by encore software) which is better. It has more info abt colleges, has a CD by newsweek, and lots of fin. aid info which might come in handy esp. if you are an international student like me. If you wanna save $10-15 however, then this would be a better deal.
