5.0 out of 5 stars Best SAT prep book I've read so far.
I am a incoming Senior in high school. I took the June 4 SAT's and scored a 1450. I was determined to turn that around so I decided to buy a Kaplan SAT prep book because it's critically acclaimed as a effective study guide. As I am reviewing this from myself only, I'd like to mention that this review would be helpful for juniors and seniors rather then parents or...

3.0 out of 5 stars Easier than actual test
I purchased this book for my son, along with several other books including the college board book of real sats. I've helped him practice, and we both agree that the tests in this book are significantly easier than the real tests. Some questions also have more ambiguous answers, especially in the reading sections. While every book is probably worth the money since the SAT...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best SAT prep book I've read so far., July 25, 2011

I am a incoming Senior in high school. I took the June 4 SAT's and scored a 1450. I was determined to turn that around so I decided to buy a Kaplan SAT prep book because it's critically acclaimed as a effective study guide. As I am reviewing this from myself only, I'd like to mention that this review would be helpful for juniors and seniors rather then parents or teachers. First off the presentation is great. Kaplan gets down to the heart and core of critical reading to the point where you start to analyze a passage with ease. The "Kaplan" Methods or so they call them are one of the most helpful tip's-and-trick's type of method I ever saw regarding the SAT. I haven't touched into the math section yet as I am on the Critical reading section (where I scored a 420, ouch) and so far I'm taking in more then I would of before with the help of Kaplan's approach on short passages, long passages, sentence completion etc. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to see a decent score on the next time they take the SAT'S. So far the earliest one this year is in September, however at the rate I'm going through this book I am rather confident that I will take in as much as the book information as I can before the September SAT'S. There are 3 full practice SAT's and a useful diagnostic test to show you how screwed/good you are. For the price of 16 bucks with shipping and handling included, I am certain that this is the best investment any knowledgeable high schooler can make, to prepare for the SAT'S. I noticed a typo on page 246 though but I already sent it to Kaplan via email so by the time your reading this the book was probably re-edited for a few typos. Before you do buy this though, I'd like to point out that there are no shortcuts as you have to soak in as much as you can and you also have to TRY to study. Take notes, analyze data, and try to break down information to the core if you want to think critically and score higher then a 1450 like this guy. Peace out Amazon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easier than actual test, October 4, 2011
This review is from: Kaplan SAT 2012: Strategies, Practice, and Review (Paperback)
I purchased this book for my son, along with several other books including the college board book of real sats. I've helped him practice, and we both agree that the tests in this book are significantly easier than the real tests. Some questions also have more ambiguous answers, especially in the reading sections. While every book is probably worth the money since the SAT can be worth thousands if you do well, your time is better spent on another book besides this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive SAT guide, November 13, 2011
This review is from: Kaplan SAT 2012: Strategies, Practice, and Review (Paperback)
This is your typical SAT book, with some strategies at the beginning and some practice test at the end. It has three complete practice tests, one diagnostic test and one complete test online. This books is accompanied with online resources, which are very good and interactive. It has more a 1000 questions bank in the online resources, and the tests are fully customized.

The Kaplan SAT book is one of the most balanced books in the market, It has very straightforward strategies that would help any student to have a good performance in the SAT. Unfortunately, the questions in the practice test are actually easier than the actual test, which is serious problem since a student should not be under-prepare for the test.

Bottom-line: this is a good book, with very good advice and strategies, The additional online practice is worth to try. Unfortunately, the practice tests are easier that the real SAT. I think the best way to prepare for the SAT is to buy the College Board SAT book( the blue one ) and create techniques and strategies that would fit more to the student personal necessities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good practice tests, got a 2240 on the SAT, November 5, 2011

This review is from: Kaplan SAT 2012: Strategies, Practice, and Review (Paperback)
This book helped me improve my score from a 2050 to a 2240. The review in the book wasn't the most helpful, but it definitely reminded me of some things (especially math rules) that I had forgotten, and I ended up improving my math score form a 660 to a 780. After a while I realized that the SAT only really tests a the same set of problems over and over again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kaplan GRE Prep review, December 17, 2011

This review is from: Kaplan SAT 2012: Strategies, Practice, and Review (Paperback)
I used this book to prep for the Revised GRE. The book is very helpful. However, I would also use the Barron's prep book and the math review by Cliff's Notes. This book, alone, will not fully prep you for the GRE. In my opinion, the reading and vocabulary practice questions were similar to those on the GRE but the math was far less complicated than the questions on the revised GRE.
