All versions of this game are TONS of fun-- Solo or with a group of people. Its fun to put on a show and have fun :-) None of the games catch words--- sometimes my friends and I will change them around for laughs. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Fun for All Singers, March 1, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Karaoke Revolution (Video Game)
If you think of Karaoke as a bad bar game, think again! With your XBox not only can you have amazing fun with yourself and friends, but you actually learn to be a better singer!

My boyfriend is in a band, and was in a choir for my entire school career. I never was much of a fan of karaoke, though. So it was with trepidation that I gave this game a try. It comes complete with a microphone and 50 songs for you to sing along with. The mix is a great cross section of old and new, from "When a Man Loves a Woman" to "Complicated". There are single player, multi player, arcade mode, sequential mode, and of course straightforward karaoke.

The graphics in the game are really good. You get to choose from a number of character models to represent you, each with several costumes. There are several environments, each with moving backgrounds and bandmates to back you up.

The crowd really gets into the song - either clapping and dancing around if you do well, or booing and leaving if you do poorly. It gives you immediate feedback to do better. The feedback line on the bottom of the screen is excellent as well. The arrow moves along with the musical line, showing you clearly if you are too sharp or flat, and "sparking" if you nail it perfectly. It really is extremely impressive, to see how far audio systems have come that this is "just a game".

You can play on levels from basic to expert, to help you learn how the songs and system works before you really try to nail every single note. It's easy at the beginning, and you can unlock new songs, costumes, environments, and more. But the real test of course is cranking the game up to expert and seeing just how talented you are. Can you get the rhythm and pitch spot on, or are you going to be booed off stage?

With the proliferation of musical reality shows, it's often easy to think of singing as an 'easy task', something anybody can do in the shower. We all only hear our voices inside our heads, and tend to think we are singing wonderfully. This game is a great training tool, to help you be on key with much more accuracy.

You can even download more songs from XBox Live if you want to - or play against friends to see who is the best singer in the group. It's incredibly addictive, you want to keep playing along to do better and better, until your throat starts to get sore :)

Highly recommended! 5/5

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than a voice coach, June 26, 2004
This review is from: Karaoke Revolution (Video Game)
For those of us with average singing ability who desire to improve their skills, this game is an economical and fun alternative to taking voice lessons. I never realized how hard it is to sing an entire song, let alone many songs in a row. The first thing that improved was my breathing, and I can now sing for a longer time without gasping for air or straining my vocal chords. My singing has gone from average to respectable, and it's all from playing this game. I admit, I don't like to play this game with others as much as I like playing it alone, as it gives me more time to practice my singing. At first I only sang the songs I was familiar with, and stuck to artists whose vocal ranges more closely matched my own. As I got better, I found I was able to sing songs I could never sing before. I'm currently working on being able to sing like Aretha. I have gotten confident enough to start learning the songs I didn't know before, and I have a better appreciation for both music and singing.

As a game, KR has been a hit with everyone I have coaxed into playing. Players can have different judging levels to compensate for their level of ability. The easy level is good at first, but the key is to move up to more difficult judging levels so you can really work on improving your singing. Though the graphics are wonderful, after a while you dont even have to watch the screen anymore if you learn to pay attention to the music. This game has taught me a lot about singing, and I am grateful to Konami for putting out such an incredible game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Karoake Revolution is surprisingly fun, January 26, 2004
This review is from: Karaoke Revolution (Video Game)
I've 'performed' karaoke and number of times but my wife has never considered singing on stage a suitable option. So I was hesitant when we opened up the game (it was a gift) but after singing a few songs we realized we were having a good time.

There's a good choice of music and only a few that we didn't know. The cartoony characters are fun to watch as a performer or audience. And the performance meters seem to be more accurate than I liked!

It would be nice to have a duet mode. And hopefully the expansion disks aren't too expensive. I'm pretty sure we'll get one.

This isn't like a game of Madden that can be played, realistically, eight hours a day (if given the choice...) but when played on occasion, Karaoke Revolution is a fun time.

I bought this game an it is great! It does come with 30+ songs which is a good selection, but I can't wait to get the expansion discs! I did find on the game's homepage a place where you can make requests for songs that you would like to see on future discs. Hopefully america will make lots of requests so we can get some expansion discs soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for those who sing and those who don't, December 5, 2003

Excellent music and rhythm game. Particularly fun and exciting for those who suffer from controller wrist and finger pain because all you need is the microphone headset. If you like Amplitude and Dance Dance Revolution, you'll love Karaoke Revolution. You do really sing and hitting pitch is much more difficult than you think. I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys music and likes to have fun.

This review is from: Karaoke Revolution (Video Game)
My son just loves this - he got one for Christmas and he "practiced" in the non-judging karaoke mode b/c he was intimidated by the judging, but now we set the judging on "easy" and he beams with pride after winning gold and platinum albums. I'm trying to find more info about the expansion pack to get more songs rather than buy the second version which apparently has very little new except for songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and good practice!, February 12, 2004

This game just isnt about getting up and singing in front of everyone. This game actually "teaches" you to sing. It will let you know when you need to raise the tone of your voice or lower it. Very helpful and fun to try to hit that perfect note. Characters fun and many unlockables of more characters, outfits, videos, outtakes, etc. I hear the expansion cd (of more songs and characters) is coming out in September of 2004. Even though the current songs are nice you go through them quicker the you would think and now (Feb 2004) I have to wait forever for the expansions. I would actually recommend waiting on this product a little while or you'll go through withdrawls while you wait for more songs ;) Great game though! Good for parties and get togethers.

P.S. If you suck at singing you can turn your voice down and just do the raising and lowering of the tone of your voice. Fun and nobody can hear you.... (except dogs)

4.0 out of 5 stars Suck on that, June 17, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

This game has many fun qualities but it fails in comparison to the other versions. I would recommend getting Volume 3 for the duets capabilites, rather than this original version. The song list is limited, yet it has a lot of replay value.
