A must read for any Karate Ka.,
By
This review is from: Karate - The Isshinryu Way: My Philosophy on the Martial Arts and Life (Paperback)
In my search for the true way a person should focus their enegy in the Martial Arts, no other instructor has given me more insight into a person's personal growth in the Martial Arts than Master Jones. Only having met him twice at Martial Arts seminars, he has left an impression on me as to what a Master in the Martial Arts should be. In his book he nicely out lines what he has found through experiences as a police officer and a student of the Martial Arts, not only how to practice the Martial Arts, but a few insights as how to live the way a Karate ka should. Through his stories we see that Karate is more than kicking and punching in a Dojo, but is a way of living, through deeds and practices. Karate, The Isshinryu Way, is a must read for any Karate Ka. No matter what form or style you are in this book will give an honest insight into Master Jones' journey in the Martial Arts. Hopefully it will inspire you as it has me.

Inspirational and Motivational,
By Angel (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Karate - The Isshinryu Way: My Philosophy on the Martial Arts and Life (Paperback)
I met Master Jones for the first time at a seminar in Tennessee a few weeks ago. After attending his class I had to get his book. Like him, his book is fascinating, fun, inspirational and a motivator. As he takes you through his life he interjects his philosophy with stories and events that shaped his life. He also hits on some areas of training that had never even occurred to me before. The best part is it comes from someone who isn't guessing what techniques work. He tells you straight out what worked and didn't work for him. These lessons are not only related to the martial arts but reflect a way of life. I've read it three times so far and each time have found something I missed the time before. If you get no other martial arts book, get this one!

Great Read,

This review is from: Karate - The Isshinryu Way: My Philosophy on the Martial Arts and Life (Paperback)
I really enjoyed Master Jones book. It gives much insight into not only Isshinryu, but also how he used it in the streets of a crime ridden city, as a police officer in the line of duty.He stresses karate the old fashioned way, hard work, much sweat and plenty of dedication. His words are not in your face but they do put forth their message in a very strong manner. You won't put this book down wondering what it is that he meant. All together its a work done well on the Isshinryu system that comes from the heart of one of its leading practitioners.

This review is from: Karate - The Isshinryu Way: My Philosophy on the Martial Arts and Life (Paperback)
Master Jones not only takes you on a journey from a young man growing up in Illinois to a Nationally known martial arts master but he also relates his philosophy in easy to understand accounts from real confrontations. He is one of those unique people who has been there but yet is humble in the great knowledge he possesses. Police officer, police academy instructor, karate instructor and most of all the true manifestation of a genuine master of the martial arts!
Your martial arts library is not complete without this book.

A book for all styles,
By A Customer
This review is from: Karate - The Isshinryu Way: My Philosophy on the Martial Arts and Life (Paperback)
As a Shotokan practitioner I was reluctant to buy this book until a friend and fellow instructor recommended it. Now I can say its one of the best books I've read. No matter what your style you will find this book inspirational. The longer you have been in the arts the more you will get out of it. Master Jones shares stories of how karate affected his life from the time he was a young boy, to what techniques worked for him as a police officer, to instructional techniques. He has a rare point of view that is backed by experience and common sense. I hope there is a sequel!

Easy Reading, Deep in Meaning,
By A Customer
This review is from: Karate - The Isshinryu Way: My Philosophy on the Martial Arts and Life (Paperback)
A refreshing new prospective to the study, personal development and life journey of a true martial arts master. Master Jones not only covers some of the finer points in how to grow in your karate skills and abilities, but also delves into the enhancement of internal strength and fortitude. Yet, he has found a way to convey his knowledge in a way that is easy reading, fun and hard to put down. I've read the book three times, and like kata, the more I study it the more I find new and deeper aspects and meaning. This one is highly recommended to any martial artist serious about looking to the next level of their art and themselves

This review is from: Karate - The Isshinryu Way: My Philosophy on the Martial Arts and Life (Paperback)
This book touches on many areas of matial arts training that I've never seen published before. Teaching, rank, training techniques, mind-set, and legalities that I'd never even thought about before, coming from someone who's really been there. This is stuff I will use in my karate classes and in the high school classes I teach. The life experiences, as a former police officer and current karate instructor, Master Jones relates in easy to read stories. The stories really helped tie-in and explain his philosophy and touched a common thread. After you stopped to think about what he said it really made sense. There are also what seems to be a lot of between the line messages which add to the depth of this book. I would recommend this book to martial artist of all ages, levels and styles.

Outstanding!!,

This review is from: Karate - The Isshinryu Way: My Philosophy on the Martial Arts and Life (Paperback)
This is an outstanding book! It's easy reading and very interesting to hear the cop stories and how they relate to the martial arts. He tells the truth about what techniques worked and which ones did not. In addition, Master Jones says things that have needed to have been said for a long time regarding rank and conveys the true mind-set and philosophy of a warrior. As a long time martial artist it also brought back a lot of old memories of common experiences. I've read it a couple of times now (it's that kind of book), and I really enjoyed it. Add this one to your your library, no matter what your style or rank!
