5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Karate Kid Soundtrack Set, May 14, 2007
This review is from: The Karate Kid I - II - III - IV Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Scores (Audio CD)
NOTE: This is only a review of Disc One.

I just purchased this CD set from the manufacturer and have to say it is a superb packaged limited edition set. Not only do you get the original The Karate Kid soundtrack (that was NEVER released--what a travesty), but you get The Karate Kid II, III and IV soundtracks as well (all unreleased as well), all composed and conducted by music genious, Bill Conti. For over two decades, fans of the music score had to settle for the only soundtrack out there, the one with all the songs from the movie. That isn't a music score or soundtrack. The songs in the movie were alright, but nothing was more memorable that the actual background music. (Producers of the Top Gun soundtrack--songs only--should take note.) The packaging is nice (a box with a cd case that has 4 cd's and a booklet on the making of the soundtracks). The sound quality is great (they definately did not rush to get it out like with some). So far I have only listened to the first cd (The Karate Kid) and have to say I was immediately wisked away to 1984. Whether it is the opening theme that is used in the cross-country drive with Daniel and his mother, that echoes the main Karate Kid theme, or the mystical themes played for Mr. Miyagi, or the action theme such as tracts 3 and 21, Bill Conti's music comes through just as pleasing as it did over 20 years ago. Of particular interest in tract 3 (which is when Daniel is being chased while on a bicycle--very solid action type tract), tracts 12 and 18 (which feature the soft love theme for Daniel and Ali), tract 17 (featuring the highly instrumental training montage scene with Daniel), and tract 21 (which has the always memorable final kick by Daniel and his win at the tournament). Tract 11 is interesting, as it is listed as a DEMO, but I swear I remember this vocal version in the actual movie. The track listing for Disc One is as follows:

Disc One (35:38)

The Karate Kid (1984)

1. Main Title (3:30)
2. Fight Nite (2:01)
3. Bumpy Ride (1:37)
4. Dan Ducks Out (:55)
5. Bonsai Tree (:43)
6. Decorate The Gym (:39)
7. Miyagi Rattles Bones (2:21)
8. Miyagi Intercedes (1:28)
9. On To Miyagi's (1:33)
10. The Pact (2:12)
11. Feel The Night (Demo) (Bill Conti and Baxter Robinson) Performed by Baxter Robinson (1:56)
12. Troubled Lovers (:33)
13. Japanese Sander (1:26)
14. Paint The Fence (3:11)
15. Daniel Sees The Bird (2:38)
16. Fish & Train (2:28)
17. Training Hard (2:29)
18. The Kiss (1:02)
19. Japanese Hand Clap (:40)
20. No Mercy (:23)
21. Daniel's Moment Of Truth (1:52)

Overall, it is a great CD and collection. When I listen to the rest of the cd's, I will post more. If you are a Karate Kid fan, this is the set for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars The full experience, July 18, 2007

This review is from: The Karate Kid I - II - III - IV Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Scores (Audio CD)
Here is the ultimate collection for Karate Kid aficionados. Especially the pan flute sequences in the first and second movies. I was hoping to get the "bone dance" from the second film, but for some reason, that does not appear in this collection. This is all the orchestral background music and does not include the popular hits such as "You're The Best Around", "The Glory of Love", or "Listen To Your Heart". You need the other CDs of the movie soundtracks to get those. Still, the orchestral background for these films is mood making and beautiful to listen to. They cost me about $100 but you can't get this music anywhere else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why so limited???, April 23, 2011

This review is from: The Karate Kid I - II - III - IV Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Scores (Audio CD)
This might be a great product, but I'll probably never know.
My annoyance is, why was this released so limited?
There is no other soundtrack-release of these films except with the pop-music on them, not the soundtrack.
I'm not going to spend hundreds on this set just because it's the market's value as it was so limited.
So it angers me that they released it to such a limited production.
This should have been a pretty wide available CD-set for the fans.
Or at least made some kind of regular version/releases, next to a special collector's edition.

Now I can't get this, not even as a download!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Music!, November 13, 2010

I love the orchestral music of Bill Conti!
What a shame his scores for the Karate Kid movies went unreleased.
Everyone loves the first two movies, but the surprise is KK3 & KK4
scores are breathtakingly beautiful. I spent $200 on the set and it's
worth every penny--great memories from the movies.

The set features a CD case featuring the scores and a making of booklet.
The music lasts about 3 hours and it's fascinating how Conti and Zamfir (pan flute)
rework old themes into new masterpieces. A must have for any Karate Kid fan.
Makes a great Christmas present.

Easily one of the most sought after movie scores of all time, and worth every penny. The music for all the movies are quite beautiful, even 3-4.
