This review is from: The Karate Kid (1985 film) (Audio CD)
11 years after hearing the soundtrack to the Karate Kid on LP I had to have it. Unfortunatly it was not on cd at the tine, For the most part most the soundtrack is here on the cd with a few noteable exceptions the following songs WERE NOT included 1.Broken Edge Please answer me unavailable elsewhere only featured in the film 2.Bananarama Cruel summer it is rumored that the first batch of cds featured this song on the soundtrack but is easy to find 3.Matches The Ride the song is briefly played during the scene Johnny and co arrive at the beach on their dirt bikes in the movie and sadly is only heard for a few seconds and again this is not available anywhere Lastly theres the pan flute music performed by Gheorghe Zamfir I don't think this was EVER released anywhere although I could be wrong. This would be a great addition to anyone's 80's cd collection (big fan of the 80's myself) What needs to be done is a re-release remastered edition including the missing tracks and sleeve notes.

Anthology,

The first soundtrack to the Karate Kid movies is the best of the four... even though it is missing the ever popular Bananarama hit, "Cruel Summer" and "The Ride" (played when the Kobra Kai rode onto the beach on their motorbikes) and does not include ANY of Bill Conti's fantastic score. But a CD that has "Moment of Truth" and "You're The Best" on there is alright in my book. What they really oughta do is release "The Karate Kid Anthology" with the most popular songs from all 4 movies, the highlighs from the scores, and the songs that were missing from the original soundtracks. Glenn Mederios has a song called "High Wire" in the 3rd movie played in the dance club and it is not on the soundtrack and is not on any of his solo albums. The only way to get it is on the b-side of the out-of-print cassette single of "Listen To Your Heart" by Little River Band (the theme from Karate Kid III). This too should be included on that anthology. It would be fitting too, since Part II and III are coming out on DVD on July 10.

Excellent Top Class Music,

I found this soundtrack excellent as the film itself the music reminded me of the first time I saw "The Karate Kid".And at the age of 25 I still love the movie and its soundtrack but there is a downside the Bananarama song "Cruel Summer" wasn't featured in the OST, and also the wonderfull pan flute music played by Bill Conti should have really been included, but overall I recomend this OST, And I really do hope that the soundtrack to The Karate kid II does come out on CD very soon........

Great soundtrack, but incomplete,

Unfortunately the soundtrack is missing the beautiful pan flute music as well as a couple of songs such as Cruel Summer. But despite this, it's still a great sountrack which should please any fan of The Karate Kid and 80's music.

I bought this CD in anticipation of hearing most of the good songs from the film the Karate Kid. This CD features a number of good songs, but is lacking many songs from thne film. Cruel Summer, The Ride, the song from the beginning of the film, the song when Daniel was in the dance floor in the shower, and several others are missing on this CD. On top of that some of the songs are not even the originals featured in the film.
The song "Feel the Night" is one such example. The version of this song from the film is missing in this CD. It was good to hear some of the classics from the 1980's, but only how I wish this CD had all the songs from the film.

Underappreciated Masterpiece,

I live in Australia, and here it is quite easy to find a copy of this cd. Actually, it can be found permanantly reduced in most record stores since it doesn't seem all that popular. What I can't find in stores are copies of the soundtracks for the other two movies. I thought "The Karate Kid" was a fantastic film, especially since I saw it when I was a kid and I was really into all the karate stuff, but today it's really the music that tops it off for me. It was disappointing how "Cruel Summer" wasn't present, and another song that I can't remember ("The Ride"?). It also seems weird that the pan flute music wasn't in there, since it kind of ties in with the obvious Japanese theme. I strongly recommend it for anyone with a liking for popular 80's music and fond memories of the film. Y'know, it seems that most of the soundtracks for films starring Elisabeth Shue are pretty good - check out "Leaving Las Vegas", with music by sting. It's a great recording.

NEEDS PANFLUTES,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Karate Kid (1985 film) (Audio CD)
This is a pretty ok soundtrack with good 80's songs but like so many others out there, I was really hoping for some instrumental music, the panflute music that was played in the movie is heavenly. It is what really makes the movie work. If they ever release the instrumental music to the Karate Kid trilogy I will snap it up in a second.

There was a time in the 80's when alot of the best movies
were supported by really strong soundtracks and The Karate Kid is one of them.... Granted, the songs for the most part are on the softer side... But it's still a good soundtrack with the awesome cut "You're the Best" as the feature track. There is also Surviors "Moment of Truth" that is yet another great song by a band that had become known for making good sountrack songs. "Young Hearts" is also a good pop cult and the rest of the tracks support this album fairly well.

I'd give it FIVE stars, but they're gipping us!!,

I KNOW The Karate Kid and following sequels BY ROTE (yes, I admit, I'm a geek) with the exception of The Next Karate Kid. While they HAD to include the song from the tournament, they just had to (I'll also admit that I play this song when I'm doing my own martial training-long live Larusso!!)! But they FORGOT or NEGLECTED to include "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama. That's played when Daniel's riding his bike to school with his shades on to hide his first doses of whoop-@ss. I DEMAND that The music label RE-RELEASE this soundtrack WITH "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama on it, NOT omitting a single track. For [the price]I think that's more than reasonable! Feel free to e-mail me with your feelings and/or input.

This album should be called "Songs from The Karate Kid".
I expected to see some of the songs on this album but not 'only' the songs. Where is the beautiful instrumental music from Bill Conti? A major disappointment. |
