Very good, simple to understand and read. The Author explains the moves as easy as possible -- and for every move. A recommended book

Beginner to Black Belt - Shotokan Karate, July 22, 2007
This review is from: Karate by Pictures (Paperback)
Yup, this really is a "Beginner to Black Belt" karate book, unlike the one by JVW (take note John!).
A comprehensive introduction to Shotokan Karate including all the kata's up to Black-belt (Shodan - 1st Dan). The 5 Heian Kata's, Tekki 1 & Bassai Dai. Another outstanding feature is that as you progress through each kata, the bunkai (application) is shown & described alongside on each page.
Brilliantly laid out with VERY clear pictures and diagrams and unlike a lot of other "similar" books it often shows the unseen intermediate moves as well.
Although quite old and becoming rarer by the day this is a fantastic book, I really can't believe it's not been re-published.
Important note: This book ONLY contains the kata - so for all your Kihon & kumite (basics & sparring) moves, you'll have to get yourself off down to a decent dojo, besides, you can't learn karate from a book as many seem to think they can.
