This is a way too overpriced, very thin,(much more suitable for 13 year olds), condensed version of "The Carpenters, The Untold Story", by Ray Coleman. I am a Carpenters fan, and I can not recommend this book to anyone--execpt the collector who has to have Everything about the Carpenters. This book says nothing new about Karen that has not already been said better in tv documentaries from "PBS", "VH-1", "E" and "A & E". You learn almost nothing about Karen's struggles as the first really great woman drummer, who could also sing better than any other woman of the 1970's. The book gives no new facts about Karen's losing battle with anorexia nervosa: or that eating disorders became world famous on the day she died,(Feb. 4, 1983),or that e.d.'s were unknown up till then, which made treating Karen all the more difficult. The average Carpenters fan could probably write a better book than this one. The book was probably written for young adults, who might find it too simplistic. There are some new photographs in the book, but, the cover photo is Karen at her worst. By comparision, the cover photo of "The Completer Guide to the Music of the Carpenters" by John Tobler shows a very beautiful, lovely Karen. Richard also looks good as well on the cover of J. Tobler's book. There are about 6 books that have focused on the Carpenters: (1)Ray Coleman's book, (2) John Tobler's book, (3) "Yesterday Once More" by Randy Schmidt, (4) "Close to You--The Story of Karen and Richard Carpenter" by the Ronald Garcia, (5) "The Mook", (a Japanese picture magazine/book, with countless photographs), by Yuko Ogura, (with help from Richard Carpenter), and (6) Tom Stockdale's book. My sincere recommendation to you is buy the other 5 books and forget about this one. It's not worth the price, and there is a much better book: the Ray Coleman biography.

I think the book was great,i would lend it to any one but it is a bit short just as you get realy into the book your a couple of pages from the end.wasn't alivein the era of music but i'm very much into that era and a big fan of the carpenters i would have loved to see them in concert.
