Not Korven Kunnigans but still really good,

Korpiklaani have been a top band for me for a few years now and I must say initially I was a bit dissapointed on the first couple listens with Karkelo. But after giving it its due respect and listens, I must say that I listen to this album as frequently as I used to listen to Korven (only because now I have Karkelo). People will notice that the influence of the folk element has subsided slightly but is still there. Thats the biggest musical difference. But I've woken up to the songs in my head and I listen to the whole album on the way to work. Only two English songs, which I prefer the Finnish sung songs (though I dont even know Finnish) because I think it adds a bit of mystery to what the songs are like. I also don't like all these foreign bands singing in English, I think its interesting to hear their native tongue.
Anyways, its Korpiklaani. If you've liked them before, you'll like them here. If you didnt like them before, than you won't like them now. Its probably worth 4.5 too, but amazon does 1-5. Cheers !

Vodka!,

2009's Karkelo is the sixth studio album from Finnish folk metal band Korpiklaani. This band has risen to the top of the "Paganfest" scene in recent years, thanks to their alcohol-fueled brand of folk metal that's heavy on accordion, violin, woodwinds and other instruments that aren't typically found on metal albums.
Karkelo gets off on the right foot with "Vodka," a rowdy single that's easily the album's best track. It's so much fun I'm tempted to give Karkelo a 5-star rating based on that song alone. After that the songs turn towards more traditional folk elements, and the band shifts from English to Finnish, which really suits the music, even if you don't know what they're talking about. Honestly, Karkelo is more or less a repeat of Korven Kuningas. The band isn't doing anything really new here, but the music is so much fun I can't hold that against them. How can you really, when they have such rousing songs as "Bring Us Pints of Beer (If You Don't Drink, You Can Leave)"? Closing with a song titled "Kohmelo" (Finnish for "Hangover") is a nice touch as well! It may not be that much different from previous Korpiklaani albums, but Karkelo is still a totally enjoyable album that should please most fans of this band. It's definitely true to the Korpiklaani sound. It also makes a great starting point for newcomers. Edition Notes: The version of Karkelo I have includes a 14th track called "Konnin Kuokkamies."
