Okay, okay. My fault, I guess, for not sampling the whole set of tracks on both CDs before buying. I guess I got what I deserved after listening to all the songs.
If you want some ...diverse, quasi-elevator, zone out to semi-intelligent sounds 2 CD set, then congratulations, look no further.

Each month I set aside a portion of my music budget to purchase unknown or untested product. This box set fell into that category and paid back well.

The decision to purchase this was based on recognizing a few names on the track listing ... Roni Size, Kruder & Dorfmeister, DJ Food, FunDaMental, Thievery Corp etc) so I guess I wasn't all that blind is taking the risk.

For a start the price is better than the Buddha Bar compilations that I despise purely for their outrageous price. The 2 CDs in this box set comprise of a fantastic array of electronic Asian and middle eastern influenced tracks. While you may own many of these tracks on different albums it is rare to find a compilation like this with so many quality tracks. While one CD is called "Joy" and the other "tranquility" both CDs are fairly chilled out and leftfield with "tranquility" being slightly more so.

The perfect gift for someone you want to treat, whose mind you want to expand or maybe for the next group of dinner guests or friends chilling out at 4am when it is "back to mine" time.

One other nice surprise, was the cool little inscribed key chain inside the box set ... quite the gimmick but very shanti !

bomm shiva !

5.0 out of 5 stars Just love it, February 15, 2002

This is a 2 CD set - One for 'Joy' and the other for 'Tranquility'. Everything is so diverse in the set. Right from the CD package to its contents. Each song could be slotted into a different genere, yet they blend with each other so well. The music is very relaxing with a nerve soothing beat. Good for your discman, a long drive in your car, in the office - almost everywhere. I use it as a tonic for my 20 minutes of daily meditation. You should try it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bliss My Soul, February 1, 2002
This review is from: Karma Beats (Audio CD)
I started with the Buddha Bar III compilation and decided to try this after is appeared on my recommendations. It's now replaced the Buddha Bar disk in my diskman. It's that good, and better priced than the Buddha Bar stuff. I'm only into the first disk, "Joy", but if the second disk lives up the first, I know I'm going to have a new favorite here. It goes beyond mood music, combining eastern flavor with a dance approach that's accessible to the Western ear. I call it "mind music." Sure, I don't know what the singers are saying, but I know I like it. I've tasted bliss and I want more.

When I bought these CDs I was hoping for something on the edge, something to expose me to new forms of fusion between the electronic and the eclectic. God, listening to most of the tracks on these CDs makes me depressed sometimes because it allows me the fact of what record labels will stoop to release now and then.
I did say MOST of the tracks, though, not all. I liked some of the tracks, like "Pra Manha", and "Last Tango in Paris". LTinP was pretty much the first attempt in trying to merge electronica and tango that I've heard in my life. I am a tango freak, and if you know of any other such attempts, please, contact me.
To get something of the same underachiever category: Buddha Bar. To get something a little better, look into Om Lounge maybe or Thievery Corp.
