Book Description

Comic book creator Hailey Hills has no idea what she's in for when she arrives at New York City's Comic Con for the first time. But when a pair of magical boots manages to turn her into a real life Karma Kitty--the superhero of her own design--she suddenly finds herself battling ninjas, pirates, and the guy who got away.

This novella was originally published in paperback as part of the "These Boots Were Made for Stomping" anthology.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish real cons were like this! May 17, 2011
By RC_Cola
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a story about a girl getting a second chance to be with a really great guy. Well, of course it is; it's a romance, after all. The story just appeals so much to my inner fan-girl, not just because I love this author, but because these characters are well-written and actually funny. The "bad luck" of Karma Kitty's writer is just so unbelievable that it works... I don't quite know how else to phrase that. Just read it; you'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adored! August 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I adored Karma Kitty because:

1) It's an adult book, not a kid's book, and it's nice to vary my reading a bit from time to time.
2) Comic Con. Seriously. This alone is a selling point for me.
3) The main character gets super powers from a kick-butt pair of boots.
4) It's fun. It doesn't try to take itself too seriously.
5) It's a fast read and full of action.
6) It's only 99 cents!

So if you're a fan of ereading, this one is totally worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Read March 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This isn't the type of book I would normally read, but it was a good change of pace. Karma Kitty was a nice easy read and it was good to read an adult romance that didn't involve sex.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mancusi's "Karma Kitty Goes to Comic Con" March 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Cute, fun novella filled with references and in-jokes that make my geeky little heart feel all warm and fuzzy.

The Pros:
Reconciliation story (love them), smart and geeky heroine, pining hunk of a hero, a kick a$$ pair of boots, and more ninjas than you can shake a (chop)stick at. The best way to describe this novella is "fun." I enjoyed reading it. Who doesn't want to be a superhero when they grow up? I think the most enticing thing about Cons is that they give "grown ups" the chance to recapture those fantasies. So, what better place to have someone discover superhero abilities and a nefarious plot than Comic Con? It's wish fulfillment, and it's done well.

The Cons:
The edition I read (Kindle) had a good deal of editing issues. Missing words, duplicated words, duplicated or inaccurate punctuation. Something definitely went wrong either in line editing or formatting. While it happened frequently enough to pull me out of the story in places, it was not so much as to make me abandon the story altogether. This is not the author's fault (and I didn't lower my rating because of it), but it is something that impacted my reading enjoyment.

There are editing issues, but the overall story is strong enough to shine through. I enjoyed the characters. I like the setting. If anything, I wish there was more use of the setting in the story, because Cons are just so much fun. For a quick, fun read, Karma Kitty saves the day.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible; DNF March 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was an utterly terrible book. The writing felt very forced and unnatural and the premise was completely ridiculous. I could not finish it. Normally I don't write reviews, but I felt like I should warn people about this. Not even worth $0.00, as you are wasting your precious time.

More About the Author

Mari Mancusi always wanted a dragon as a pet. Unfortunately the fire insurance premiums proved a bit too large and her house a bit too small--so she chose to write about them instead. Today she works as an award-winning young adult author and freelance television producer, for which she has won two Emmys. When not writing about fanciful creatures of myth and legend, Mari enjoys goth clubbing, cosplay, watching cheesy (and scary) horror movies, and her favorite guilty pleasure--playing videogames. A graduate of Boston University, she lives in Austin, Texas with her husband Jacob, daughter Avalon, and their dog Mesquite.
