The pocketbook looks at the historical belief in reincarnation and then gets straight into 'how does that relate to me today'. I could understand the simple but profound messages it conveyed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sub-Title is Misleading
This book is more along the lines of an "apologia" for Reincarnation. It seems to be written for Christians (Catholics in particular) in an attempt to try to "prove" the existence of reincarnation. I was actually attracted to this book because of the subtitle "Transcending your Past, Transforming your Future." I did not need to be "convinced," so most of the book was...

The pocketbook looks at the historical belief in reincarnation and then gets straight into 'how does that relate to me today'. I could understand the simple but profound messages it conveyed.

It has the power to change your life, the way you view situations, the way you respond and the sense of purpose you have. I always enjoy the real life stories and anecdotes in the Summit University Press pocketbooks.

Convincing as it is, it isn't pushy. I really enjoyed the section on personal, relationship and group karma - it offered me so many answers as to what were the underlying conditions in my life, whether in my relationships with those close to me or people I meet in the street. There is a reason for everything.

An innovative book that is positive, empowering and thought-provoking.

4.0 out of 5 stars So much info in such a tiny book!, August 6, 2003
This review is from: Karma and Reincarnation: Transcending Your Past, Transforming Your Future (Pocket Guides to Practical Spirituality Series) (Paperback)
My experience in the past with karma and reincarnation was the typical stereotypes of "oohhh, watch out for karma" or "his karma will get him" or "Yeah, I was Queen of Egypt in a past life."

It was nice to read a book that treats the subject serious and gives a good introduction to core concepts. Then the authors expand upon those concepts in the later chapters in the book.

The personal stories told in the book I felt were reasonable and I wasn't left with a feeling like the author pulled one over on me.

I was really happy at the end when I saw the book had an extensive bibliography. I like it that an author can quote from other sources and provide references for those that want to search more. It makes them more credible in my eyes.

Great book!

I enjoyed reading this book immensely and could not put it down. I have read literally close to a hundred books on reincarnation and this one was the most succinct yet containing valuable information on all the different aspects of karma. It is still hard for me to believe that so much information was contained in one small book. The short stories she relates to each concept help to drive the point home. She is one of the few authors who explain that not everything has to be the result of karma, a concept that sometimes causes people to form judgements against others. I plan on buying several of these books for gifts, simple enough for a beginner to understand, and also containing advanced concepts for those who have been in metaphysics for years!

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise yet with fruitful contents, July 1, 2007

This review is from: Karma and Reincarnation: Transcending Your Past, Transforming Your Future (Pocket Guides to Practical Spirituality Series) (Paperback)
This book clearly and concisely discusses various issues related to karma. These include how we relate to others karmatically, common beliefs about karma which the authors disagree with, suggestions on how we can understand our karma better, and how we can get the most benefit out of our karma. Plus, it provides a new perspective that although everything happens for a reason, some events may not be attributable to karma alone, but other factors commonly missed out.

Though I may not 100% agree with everything the authors said (most issues related to such topics can't be "verified" and everyone has different views anyway), I do believe that they open the readers' eyes by trying to explain how karma relates to our life which many find mysterious and inexplicable. I would recommend this book to anyone who are curious or want clear explanations about karma.

This book is more along the lines of an "apologia" for Reincarnation. It seems to be written for Christians (Catholics in particular) in an attempt to try to "prove" the existence of reincarnation. I was actually attracted to this book because of the subtitle "Transcending your Past, Transforming your Future." I did not need to be "convinced," so most of the book was wasted on me. There is actually very little on transcending your past or transforming your future. Had I known this, I would have looked elsewhere. However if you need a good book to give to your Catholic mother-in-law who has a closed-minded aversion to the idea of Karma and reincarnation, this would be a good book to introduce her to the subject.

This little books has provided many answers to key questions in my life - why is my life going in this direction, etc. Very helpful to understand that current situations are the result of acts long ago. Check it out!
