Book Description

Darwin Winters, reluctant pet psychic, is determined to leave her family’s paranormal past behind and lead a normal life. So she strikes out on her own and opens up a new pet boutique in St. Pete, Florida. When a local homeless man she befriends is found dead, and the police assume it’s a suicide, Darwin has no choice but to use her gift to help collar the killer.

She adopts his grieving mastiff, Karma—and with the dog’s help—tries to piece together the events of that fatal night. Accepting the visions is one thing, but can she solve the mystery without revealing her powers to the jaded, yet drool-worthy, detective in charge of the case? Or will the killer put an end to her psychic sleuthing and bury the truth for good?

About the Author

Shannon Esposito lives in a magical gulf coast town with fluorescent sunsets, purple dragonflies and the occasional backyard alligator. Her mysteries transport readers to Florida without the hefty price of airfare. Although she knew from the age of five she wanted to be a writer, she briefly entertained the idea of being a scientist, until she found out it involved math, which gives her hives. She shares this little corner of paradise with her husband, twin boys and dogs. If she's not writing, you'll find her coddling one of the above, hiding with a book or daydreaming with her toes in the sand. You can visit her at murderinparadise.com

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fun read! December 1, 2011

This fresh author introduces us to Darwin Winters, who has moved to St. Pete, Florida to escape from her strangely-gifted family. Her quest for normalcy is quickly derailed when the homeless vet she has befriended turns up dead. Darwin's psychic connection to his orphaned dog, Karma, sends her on a wild tour of her new hometown. From a tent city of homeless people to a posh penthouse with a view to die for, she pursues her friend's killer--with a few detours to stare into the dreamy eyes of the police detective on the case. The pace of the story builds until the reader can't turn the pages fast enough to keep up with Ms. Esposito's charming heroine and her hundred and fifty pound four-legged sidekick. I hope we will be hearing more about Darwin's future adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT read! March 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was enthralling and delightful from beginning to end. A thoroughly enjoyable read, I couldn't put it down. The dynamics between the characters is artfully executed, and as their personalities unfolded, I felt myself growing more attached to wonderful Karma. Pet lovers are going to laugh at the antics at Darwin's pet shop, mystery lovers are going to be trying to figure it out until the very shocking end, and book lovers are going to enjoy the character development and plot twists. I would highly recommend, can't wait to read more of Esposito's cozy mysteries!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read February 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Loved this book. Having lived in the Tampa Bat area, we used to go down to St Pete beach a lot and Ms Esposito sure does capture the flavor of the community. The mystery was suspenseful and the budding romance great but I loved the magical side of the main character and can see an avenue for many more books in this venue for Ms E. (See I'm a psychic too!) Oh and I usually always love the dog interaction. Another good series of this type is the "dog walker series" by Judy McCoy.
