5.0 out of 5 stars "The Godfather" for Asia
One hell of a read! Can't wait for another from this first-time novelist. So well evoked, you'll feel like you're in Thailand... A warning, you might want to check your passport and dysentery shots before reading because this book is so detailed, it will transport you to the wonders and mystique of Southeast Asia.

2.0 out of 5 stars a slow read, but sometimes interesting
I found the book interesting in that we get a lot of exposition about Thailand from someone who obviously loves the place. The story and characters, however, were weak and uninteresting. Had the author tried a travel guide, it would've been a heck of a good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, March 24, 2000

This review is from: Karmic Ties (Paperback)
Karmic Ties is a classic, realistic story of a young man's rise from extreme poverty to the pinacle of power. Although it is of special interest to anyone who loves Thailand the book is a very interesting, educational, and entertaining read for anyone looking for something that is better than 95% of the mass market best sellers. Can't wait for this first time authors' next book. Highly recommended.
