Editorial Reviews

Yashwantraj Mankotia (Om Puri) has brought up the daughter of his late friend, Amrita (Juhi Babbar) with love and affection as his own daughter. He plans to marry her to his only son, Randeep (Sharad Kapoor), who is settled in Canada. Randeep is reluctant to visit India to see his father, but does so when his father feigns heart trouble. Randeep is upset that he has to leave his business. He gets even more upset when his father proposes marriage with Amrita. Randeep reluctantly agrees to marry Amrita in order to get his father's inheritance. After the marriage, Randeep and Amrita travel to Canada, where Amrita finds that Randeep has a live-in girlfriend/spouse/business partner by the name of Simone (Saadhika). Simone and Randeep humilate her and she runs away. She hides in the garage of Jay Kumar (Sonu Nigam) and both eventually fall in love. Daljit "Dolly" Brar (Ravee Gupta) is the daughter of Jay's boss, and is jealous of the relationship developing between Amrita and Jay, so she fires him. Randeep has engaged some men and asked them to hunt down Amrita and kill her. Fearing for the well-being of Amrita, Yeshwantraj journeys to Canada, only to find her missing. Randeep attempts to somehow convince his dad that Amrita has eloped with some unknown man. Yeshwantraj continues looking for Amrita, not knowing that the results will change his life forever.

Format: DVD
A classic Bollywood love story...this time, it includes a jilted newlywed and an illegal Indian immigrant in Canada. The movie has some funny parts--Jai's friends can be hilarious. The antagonist of the story is really evil and you root against him from the beginning. The sub-plot reveals a "father's" love of a daughter and his willingness to go to the ends of the earth to find and protect her. I really liked the first half of this movie. However, by the end, all reality was lost--this is Bollywood, though, I guess that was to be expected. The Canadian police characters are obviously reading off cue cards and I don't think Canadaian law is that forgiving (watch the movie and you will know what I am talking about). I don't want to give away too much, but know that for the 3 hours spent watching the movie, 2 were not a waste of time. It is also nice to see a Bollywood film set in a cold, mountainous setting. It comes with English subtitles that can be turned on or off depending on your preference. Also, in the extras section you can skip to different chapters, watch only the song/dance sections, and preview forthcoming films. The music is good and the dance sequences are sometimes funny, sometimes beautiful. The movie is a good for someone just jumping into the world of Bollywood. The characters often mix english words into their dialogue.

An excerpt from the back of the DVD reads:

Amrita had lost her parents in a car crash when she was a child. But her father's friend, Yashwant, raised her as his own daughter. when she reaches the marriageable age, Yashwant brings the best proposal to her, even if it means sending her far away from him. Once in the West, Amrita finds herself in an alien world, which is hostile and venomous to her.
