Directions
For best results, make in microwave only. Just adding boiling water will no cook the whole grains. 1. Empty packet into microwave-safe bowl. 2. Add 1/2 cup water and stir ingredients. 3. Microwave on High 1 minute; stir. 4. Cook for additional 30 seconds to 1 minute. Allow to sit for desired consistency. For thicker hot cereal, use less water. For thinner hot cereal, use more water. Use a pot holder to handle a hot bowl.

In 1984, when Kashi Company founders Philip and Gayle Tauber created their unique Seven Whole Grains and Sesame blend, they considered several names for the product: Gold'n Grains, Kushi, Graino... Finally, they decided on Kashi--a synthesis of "kashruth" or kosher and "Kushi" the last name of the founders of Macrobiotics (a whole foods way of eating/living).
Later, they discovered that the word "Kashi" has many meanings around the world. In Russian, the name means porridge. In Hebrew, the word kashruth signifies simple or pure food. In Japanese, Kashi implies energy food. And in Chinese, it means happy food. I discovered these a few months ago and now I eat them for breakfast everyday. The nutrition info is good and so is the taste.

NOT instant, as the package says. To be fair, the package does also have, in somewhat smaller and less prominent print, a detailed statement telling the buyer that microwaving/cooking will be necessary. BUT if you just look at the package front, you'll get the impression you can make this like you make instant oatmeal. Not so.I hate using microwaves, so that was a big turn-off for me. All that said, the stuff is delicious and definitely warms me up and fills my tummy, keeping me from getting hungry better than most oatmeals do. The texture is thicker and heartier than regular instant oatmeals, kind of a cross between a light muesli and oatmeal. I make mine, add about 2 ounces of organic skim milk, and I'm good to go. The sweetness is light and wonderful, no overly-sugary yuckiness.
