5.0 out of 5 stars Kaspersky Internet Security - The best there is. October 14, 2012
By TJ14

Ok wow. I have no connection with Kaspersky whatsover. Just a regular longtime amazon user who writes many reviews, some of which are very positive if I like the product a lot.

Kaspersky Internet Security (K.I.S) has yet again proved itself as a dominant player in the security market with its 2013 version. Almost any internet security comes with a 2 way Firewall, anti-spam and anti-identity theft tools. Tools which are not usually included in the anti-virus suites of any company. Hence I always suggest people to buy Internet Security suites and not just the anti-virus, regardless of the security company in question. Anyway, here are some points as to why I like KIS

1) Often security softwares tend to be unnecessarily complicated, causing the users to not use most of the features that the software comes with. Thankfully, Kaspersky has a user friendly interface which is usable to people of almost any technical level. The software notifies you in a very non-obtrusive way when a potential threat is detected. Different features in the software such as Network monitoring, handling quarantine, scanning, updating, etc. is very easy.

2) The drawback of having any anti-virus program is that it bogs down your processor and ram, and seems intrusive in most actions you might take. KIS on the other hand is very light on the system, using under 5mb of ram in the background, which is astoundingly low.

3) I have used many paid and free internet security solutions out there. McAfee, Norton, AVG amongst others. And time and again I see that KIS is the most successful in blocking worms, trojans and viruses. Quite savvy with technology, I very rarely present myself to a vulnerable situation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Strong Pluses and Minuses October 20, 2012
Verified Purchase
First of all the price on this 3 PC pack is substantially lower elsewhere so shop around. I found assigning stars to this product to be difficult. My son's computer could no longer open web sites at all even with all the browser ad-ons turned off.I had to uninstall Kaspersky on his computer and he could instantly open web sites again. The Safe Money tool was too buggy to use so I turned most of the browser features off on my PC. My wife's PC barely ran before I installed Kaspersky. She had Norton's 360 installed and it had never found any problems. Kaspersky found multiple ad-wares, trojans and viruses. Her PC runs like new now that the threats have been removed. Kaspersy sometimes borders on overkill for security but does a great job eliminating threats. I think it is a great product but you may have to turn off most of the browser add-ons to use the internet.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good luck renewing it in a year. November 6, 2012
Last year, I bought Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (I originally mis-typed 2010) from Amazon, and have been getting messages from the system to renew or upgrade. Kaspersky seems to work, although the updates can be tediously slow. But that's just the software end.

So I go to renew, since all the other antivirus programs have been junk. The problem isn't Kaspersky itself, but the global agents they use to sell and service their product, Digital River Inc. (DRI, DRI*Kaspersky, etc.). I went into the software and attempted to Renew as instructed. I entered all my info as asked and that's where the problems began. I attempted to Renew and was told there was a problem with my credit card info (which I knew was BS). I pulled back and modified some info, thinking it was being stingy in authorizing. No joy. I was getting suspicious.

I came to Amazon, tempted to order again, but discouraged by reports of malfunctions when updating Kaspersky. So after an hour of time wasted attempting to renew, investigating complaints, etc., I gave up for the night.

At o'dark thirty this morning, I get a call from the Fraud Department about my card while I was sleeping and called them back later. It turns out the Fraud Department services many credit card companies and they told me that Digital River tried not 2, not 3, but TEN times through various countries to get a credit approval. The reason was that Digital River caused so many problems with double and triple billing, unordered renewals, mystery billings, etc., that the Fraud Department blocks every single transaction and confirms with the customer whether they ordered the stuff, and if so, how many items and how many times they ordered in one sitting, etc.

Digital River is its own worst enemy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comparison versus McAfee All Access and Norton 360 December 18, 2012
Verified Purchase
I had the opportunity to try and to compare three different internet security suites including Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 (KIS), Norton 360 2013 - 1 User / 3 PC [Download] and McAfee All Access Individual 2013. Technology websites such as PC Magazine or CNET spend a lot of time testing the effectiveness of internet security suites at finding and disabling malware and viruses and the effectiveness of firewalls at repelling attacks. Therefore these websites are better at reviewing the actual effectiveness of the software than my experience with my own computers. However, the user experience is an important part of the software. What good is a very good internet security package if it slows your computer to a crawl or isnt easy to use? So it is the user experience of the three internet security suites that I am comparing.

All three of the internet security suites allow you to try the software on your own machine before buying and it is probably a good idea to do this before buying so that you can see how the security suite affects your own computer and if you like the interface. Just go to the software manufactures website and click on the download option to get the trial version. Once you decide, you can order the software from Amazon (generally less expensive than purchasing directly) and then enter the product key that comes with your software delivered from Amazon to convert the trial version into a year long license.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 (KIS) is developed by Kaspersky Labs which is based in Moscow. PC Magazine gave KIS 2013 the following scores: Firewall 4.
