Didn't buy from Amazon but I still love it.,

This review is from: Kassel™ Hand - carved Cuckoo Clock (Electronics)
I bought this clock at Big Lots for [...] . I was drunk. It works like it should. It keeps accurate time. Runs on D batteries. The weights are just for show. The ONLY thing I don't like about it is the way the bird chirps. I wanted the bird to chirp once for every hour which it does. However, it also plays a "waterfall" sound in the background when the bird chirps. The bird chirp has a slight echo so basically when it's 3 o'clock you'll hear 6 chirps. It's really only 3 but the echo makes it sound like 6. My friends think I'm cuckoo and this item certifies it. Oh and also, it has a built in light detector. The unit will NOT play any sounds at all if there is no light. This means I don't have to worry about that noise going off in the middle of the night. Not that it's that loud anyway but still. This allows me to have quiet time and preserve the battery a little longer. From what I understand, the D batteries that it takes will last approximately 12 months. I purchased this along with a Leg Lamp and now my home is officially weird and I love it. I am happy with my drunken purchase.

HUNK OF JUNK,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kassel™ Hand - carved Cuckoo Clock (Electronics)
This is a nice sized cuckoo clock, with a nice, high gloss finish. I like the light sensor that turns off the cuckoo during the nite time hours. On the hour, before the bird comes out his door, there is a chirping sound. It does have an echo, not bothersome to me, just a bit unusual and is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. The pendulum on my clock is quite and does not make any noise. Not sure why several others are having a problem, maybe the pendulum is rubbing against the magnet that makes it go back and forth. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase.---------------------------------------------------- 09/09/2010 UPDATE: I wanted to update my first review now that I have had the clock for several weeks. I have had to replace the batteries every 3 to 4 weeks, which is a concern as the product description indicates only have to replace once a year (even if they are still working). I know my batteries are dead when the cuckoo comes out on the hour, and is stuck, and the pendulum stops moving. So, I would suggest that you keep an extra set of d batteries on hand and a battery charger. I have also noticed that the price HAS DROPPED since my purchase, so I am concerned there are others not too pleased with this clock. So I have shut off the cuckoo and am only using it as a wall clock for now. Therefore, I have lowered my item rating. ----------------------------------------------------- 09/20/2010 UPDATE: What a piece of junk this is. Even with the cuckoo turned off, which defeats why I bought a cuckoo clock in the first place, it still is not working. Every few days the pendulum just stops, I have to take it down from the wall, giggle the batteries around in the back, then it will work for a few more days. I've had it and am going to attempt to return this piece of junk. I would recommend to anyone wanting a cuckoo clock is spend the extra money and purchase a real cuckoo clock made in Germany. I have already ordered a German made cuckoo clock and eagerly awaiting delivery to replace this hunk of junk.
