This book was true to the series of the sisters. It kept you interested and yet both people found what they were looking for.

I really didn't care for this book very much. Carlos was a handsome, troubled alpha rich male and a blockhead. His mother had to work like a dog because they were dirt poor and so this caused him to hate the little bitch Kat even though her dad was the one who help him financially to become as rich as them, por que Carlos? Kat threw herself at this guy at a party where she was dressed like a puta, as Carlos told her and she still wanted this lame man, por que Kat? This ex-bull fighter was just boring, this book was boring. It had no conflick, except that she was rich, she dressed like a whore, he was broken, and he was going to teach her how to stop running from commitment, cha as if. I never warmed up to this guy and Kat was just as lame as he was. She was stranded on his boat doing hard labor till she learned her lesson and this could have been priceless but instead it was just a bore. The ending was rushed and when Carlos finally told her he loved her on the last page of the book she actually bought it!! Maybe Kat would like to buy the Brooklyn Bridge too! I gave this book 3 stars because I did finish it, even though I had to scroll back on the kindle because I thought I had skipped a few pages...no there was just NADA. I can't recommend this book unless you want to read it late at night instead of taking a sleeping pill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could both put their demons in the past and move forward as a couple?, September 13, 2010

Marilyn Shoemaker (Seattle, Washington) - See all my reviews
Another incredible romance written by author Sharon Kendrick. Kat's Pride part of The Balfour Legacy series was a very emotional and sensual read. The Balfour's were famous for their scandals, wealth, beautiful daughters and their annual Balfour Charity Ball.

Looking back a year ago at her father's charity ball, Kat remembered how she had humiliated herself with the handsome Spanish billionaire Carlos Guerrero. He was absolutely the most handsome man she had ever seen; she was drawn to him and didn't understand the emotions she was feeling. She shamelessly flirted with him and he made it plain to her he didn't like it, nor her behaviour and thought her to be a spoiled rich girl. Kat rarely dated and she put up an armor using fashion and make-up to hide behind. She truly felt the moment you showed hurt, you made yourself vulnerable. However, her spirits were lightened when her father told her he was sending her away to the Mediterranean to sail on a luxury yacht.

Carlos Guerrero was not a happy man because he let Oscar Balfour talk him into taking his daughter Kat and putting her to work on his yacht to teach her responsibility. He didn't like the young woman, even thought he thought she was beautiful, the didn't like the way she behaved and the way she flirted. He remembered he had turned her down. You can well imagine when Kat realized not only was it his yacht, her cabin wasn't a luxury one and she would be cooking and cleaning for his staff she exploded and wanted to be returned to the mainland. In fact she tried by jumping off the boat and had to be rescued by him.

Kat hid behind being impeccably made-up and high fashion, always showing a brittle exterior while really she was insecure inside. She was terrified someone would find out. So when he bated her, she fought back. Her first days onboard were miserable because she had never cooked a day in her life. She failed and he smirked and taunted her. Finally, she asked to use the computer to get some instructions and recipes and she actually enjoyed cooking and the crew and Carlos were amazed and pleased.

Kat and Carlos sparred until it became too much and they acted on their lust when one night when Kat had a nightmare about how her stepfather died. Carlos woke her, cuddled with her and then made love to her. Talk about combustive, I was surprised the yacht didn't explode. And to his amazement he also found out she was a virgin.

However, one problem occurred to Carlos. He hadn't used protection and he was the experienced one and now they had to wait it out to see if Kat was expecting his baby. As the days followed, they continued to be close, so close that Carlos share like when he was a young bullfighter and how his father had abused him. He didn't want his child to feel that their father would be living their life through them, just like his father had done to him. And then one morning Kat came to him and told him she was not pregnant so he sent her home. Only to learn via the press that she was seen leaving an OB's office.

They each in their own way had suffered pain and both used ways to protect themselves. In ways, they were very much alike....stubborn, passionate. I began to wonder if they could both put their demons in the past and move forward as a couple and embrace their upcoming baby. Kat's Pride was book 2 in the Balfour Legacy, one I will long treasure. In one word it was stunning!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine second installment, August 31, 2010
This review is from: Kat and the Dare-Devil Spaniard (Harlequin Presents) (Mass Market Paperback)
For the second book in the Balfour series, Sharon Kendrick delivered on the trifecta for a good story: interesting characters, well-written, and with enough surprises to keep the reader interested from the very first page to the last. This book's premise could easily have fallen into some cliche traps, but the author avoids them nicely to create a book worth reading again.

Kat Balfour is essentially tricked into working as a galley member aboard a yacht on the Mediterranean as part of a character-building exercise cooked up by her father (following the theme of the series.) She's portrayed as the stereotypical idle socialite, but as the story unfolds, we see that all hasn't been roses in her life and that many things have contributed to a persona that is much more complex than the surface. In this story, there isn't so much a "grand transformation" of the rich-to-resilient heroine as there is a rediscovery of who she probably was in younger days, before a tragedy struck her family.

The hero in this book, the yacht's owner, Carlos Guerrero, is a perfect match for her... and not in a way that feels contrived to fit a storyline. He's as complex as she is, and it's nice to watch these two folks mesh in more than a physical way. We see their appreciation of each other in subtle ways -- another plus for this book. The fact that they're extremely passionate for each other lends the story an earthy appeal that juxtaposes well against its glamorous surroundings.

There's a lot of heat between these two, but, again, their relationship has some unexpected moments. It was nice to see that, even in that aspect of her life, there really was more to Kat than met the eye. Too many authors (or maybe it's the titles?) telegraph or foreshadow every aspect of a book. In this story, there were moments of pleasant surprise that kept the pages turning.

Well done.
