After falling head over heels for her Beethoven palette, I knew I had to buy Ludwig, and man I am so glad I did! First, I will say I love the packaging. What first caught my eye was the packaging. And who wouldn't love it? The tattoo rose art is gorgeous. The palette itself also includes a large mirror and 2 double ended brushes.
These colors are beautiful and highly pigmented, easily gliding on my lid, crease or brown bone. Best of all, they are super easy to blend. Most of the colors texture is shimmery soft powder except the black [Lucifer] and the brown [Leather], which are matte and are both on the end sides of the palette. I noticed a lot of other people dislike that Lucifer is in the other palettes along with Tequila.. Personally, I like that they are, but I suppose I'm a bit biased because the two happen to be high on my list of favorite products!

A problem I had with this palette was with golden-y shimmery color [Downtown, third from the right]. It has been slightly crumbling in the package, and I'm not sure if it's just me or if it's due to the hot weather. Another problem is with the color fourth to the right [Clay]. It doesn't like to stay on the lid very easily and has a lot of fall-out, even with a primer. Nonetheless, when I get the two colors on my eyes correctly (and clean up the mess from the fall-out...) they are very pretty.

Lucifer is a matte black shade that can be used alone, in a smoky eye, as an eyeliner, in your waterline or used to create depth in a shadow. There is no sparkle and is very pigmented and blendable. This shadow has been featured in several of the other palettes. Compairable to MACs Carbon.

Orbi is a very dark olive color with a little glimmer in it. I love it best in the crease. Comparable to MACs Greensmoke.

As a devoted fan of Kat Von D eyeliner I decided to try out this eyeshadow palette. I completely agree with the raves on the color selections and the convenience of having such a great range of choices in one case.
I found a bonus in the fact that it has turned out to be multi-functional: the black can double as eyeliner, the brown shades as brow powder and the lightest shade as highlighter over lipstick and under gloss and on cheekbones.
I did find that the powder was somewhat messy to apply and will dust over my face easily unless applied with a very careful and deliberate hand.
I have combination skin, so in my case a primer is essential to keep it from fading and slipping into creases after a few hours.

Of all the Kat Von D palettes, I'd say that Ludwig is the closest thing to a neutral palette. In my opinion, there are nothing but highly wearable and non-intrusive colors to wear while still being able to glam yourself up. There are so many looks I've come up with while using this palette that I'd feel perfectly comfortable traveling with it without having any other eyeshadows with me. Let me do a breakdown of the colors: - The matte black (Lucifer) and the matte brown (Leather) are colors that are staples in everyone's makeup collection. Some may not like that there are two basic colors in this, but again, it makes the palette convenient for travel. - The mossy greens (Orbi and Dimebag) are great colors for those with brown or green eyes. Sometimes these colors almost come across as gunmetal-like when I'm doing a smokey eye, so I'm curious to see how well they would look on someone with blue eyes. - The goldish green-yellow color (Tequila) and the goldish tan color (Clay) are fantastic highlight colors. - The almost rusty browns (Downtown and Baroque) have a lovely metallic quality to them, and are very easy to pull off a smokey eye with. All of the shadows are highly pigmented and are a dream to blend. I'm not very gifted when it comes to pulling of a smokey eye, but I feel like I can do it with these shadows because of their blendability. As for the duration of these shadows, these have not faded on me once (but keep in mind that I use an eyeshadow primer like Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance). I've also experienced zero fallout. The packaging is gorgeous. At first, I thought it would look a little too juvenile and Hot Topic-y for me because people kept describing this beauty line as "For the rocker chicks." Luckily that's not how the packaging looks.Read more ›

Verified Purchase
This was my first Kat Von D Sephora purchase, so I wasn't sure what I would think. I read many other of the great reviews of this product and I've got to say that I agree with them. I love this product! The colors are beautiful and they make my green eyes look great. The case it comes in is beautiful, as well. It's a quality product. I use a bigger shadow brush to apply this eyeshadow, rather the the set that comes in this kit. But I do like the tiny brushes that were included, as they are great for applying the Lucifer (black shadow) for lining.

The only thing I can say is that this product does need an eyeshadow primer. Many of the shadows are very shimmery and those hold up much better on the eyes with a primer applied first. If you prime first, these shadows will last and last all day and into the night with no creasing!

The packaging that it came in was good too. I was kind of afraid that the shadows would crack during shipping, but they did not. They were protected well with more than adequate packing materials.

I'm definitely going to purchase another set, probably Beethoven!
