Product Description

KATA's HB-207 Hiker Backpack features a level of protection you haven't seen before; KATA's TST protection safeguards the camera compartment and the bottom of the case while keeping it light. The extensive main compartment easily accommodates 2-3 Digital / SLR bodies with up to 8 lenses (up to 400 mm f 2.8), while a rear compartment will hold up to a 17 laptop. The case is set up with modular dividers, and if additional division is necessary, KATA's Modi-Vers Kits can be purchased. A separately accessed top compartment will hold accessories, a small SLR or it can be used for quick access to an SLR + lens set up by simply removing the horizontal divider. 2 soft TST open pockets for water bottles, small tripod etc., and an assortment of pockets all work together to provide the ultimate carrying and protecting solution for outdoor production. A tripod can be carried while attached to the backpack by using KATA's included tripod holder. The HB-207 advanced harness system is designed to allow for ultimate adjustment of all features; shoulder straps, 6 point adjustable waist belt, and lumbar pad, ensure the perfect ergonomic fit for each individual carrier. When not in use, the harness can be neatly folded out of the way to allow for easy storage and to allow the addition of KATA's Insertrolley.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well crafted bag that is near perfect, July 2, 2007

This review is from: Kata HB-207 GDC Hiker Backpack for DSLR system or DV/HDV camcorder. (Insertrolly optional) (Electronics)
After searching through reviews online, I decided to purchase the HB-207. Users had lauded its comfort, ease of use, and versatility. The bag is very sturdy, comfortably designed, and has the capability of holding a ton of equipment. In fact, there are times when I have loaded down the bag to the point that it didn't meet airline carry-on weight expectations. Nevertheless, because it is a backpack, I've never been asked to weigh it or check it at the airline counter.

The bag is a bit large for casual use. I would not recommended it as a day pack due to its bulky girth. The bag is also not as convenient as a traditional shoulder bag when it comes to accessing your gear. Despite its size, however, it still comfortably fits in an airline luggage compartment.

The rear laptop compartment fits a bit snug. If you are using a Mac or a small, slim computer, you should be fine. But if your computer measures greater than 15 1/2" x 11" x 2", you'll be shoving and prodding just to get it to fit.

In conclusion, the bag's pros consist of sturdy, well-crafted design, comfort, space, versatility, and, to a degree, inconspicuousness. The cons might be it's lack of easy access on the field and its girth, rendering it useless for day trips. But the bags pros far outweigh the cons.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Bag, November 3, 2006

I purchased this bag exclusively for air travel. With this large backpack I am able to safely carry all of my camera gear, as well as a 17" laptop. This pack is also great for hiking and evenly distributes the weight of your gear , and you strap on a tripod, which makes for great landscape photography.

Easily fits into airplane overhead compartments.

5.0 out of 5 stars very well built but giant, February 13, 2008
This review is from: Kata HB-207 GDC Hiker Backpack for DSLR system or DV/HDV camcorder. (Insertrolly optional) (Electronics)
Kata products are unbelievably well thought through and the build quality is fantanstic. Be aware that they are made for a very large males, and are heavy. I'm 5'5" and had to return the HB-207 because it was huge, and wouldn't fit my frame.

There are tons of pockets, straps, interior accesories like mesh bags with velcro that come with the pack that I didn't expect. If the size will work for you, the "systems" kata offers are like nothing else available.
